Summer outdoors on the lake: music, comedy, and grand shows at the Teatro Il Maggiore Arena
Summer Arena is the new summer festival at the Teatro Il Maggiore in Verbania, the multifunctional event center overlooking Lake Maggiore in the heart of the Municipality of Verbania, the capital of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province, in Piedmont. From June 25 to July 25, 2026, the impressive outdoor tiered arena with approximately 2,000 seats lights up to offer eight events ranging from music to comedy, and from philosophical thought to entertainment shows, treating the audience to open-air evenings in one of the most evocative landscapes in Northern Italy.
The festival was created with the goal of opening the theater to the city and tourists during the summer season, bringing big names from the Italian scene out of the halls. The main calendar kicks off on June 25 with the opening concert by Giovanni Allevi, who returns to move the audience with his musical language blending classical and contemporary styles. It continues on July 5 with the overwhelming comedy of Max Angioni, while July 21 features Umberto Galimberti with a show-meeting dedicated to reflection and dialogue with the audience. The grand finale is on July 25 with The Legend Show, a production of music, scenography, and entertainment that pays tribute to Michael Jackson.
Alongside the major shows, Summer Arena dedicates ample space to a younger audience with four music and nightlife-themed evenings, most of which have free admission:
These evenings transform the arena into a summer meeting point for local youth, with live music and DJ sets under the Verbano sky.
What makes Summer Arena a special event is the location: the outdoor arena of the Teatro Il Maggiore, a structure inaugurated to provide Verbania with a major cultural hub, enjoys a privileged view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. Attending a concert or a comedy show at dusk, with the breeze rising from the water, is an experience that combines the quality of the artistic proposal with the charm of the Piedmontese landscape. The festival is part of a Verbania summer rich in events, confirming the "garden city" as one of the most vibrant cultural destinations on Lake Maggiore.
Known as the "garden city," Verbania is famous for its flowered parks, the Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto, and the lakefront that makes it one of the most beloved destinations in Piedmont. Attending Summer Arena also means discovering a city that lives the summer intensely, between walks by the lake, culture, and the good food of the Ossola territory.
The first edition of Summer Arena transforms the outdoor arena of the Teatro Il Maggiore into an open-air summer stage, with a program that alternates between major shows and youth-oriented evenings.
