The Su e Giù per Giulianova is a classic event in the Abruzzo running calendar. Established in the early 1980s, this road race takes place every spring in the town of Giulianova, in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo, with the start and finish line located on the southern pier of the Port. Organized by A.P.D. Ecologica G., an athletics club founded by Luigi Chiodi and a group of passionate runners, the race has grown into a staple of both the regional and national sports calendar.

The Course

The competitive race covers a completely flat 10.1 km course that winds along the Adriatic coastline and the Giulianova seafront. Unlike the earliest editions, the current route is entirely flat and fast, making it ideal for those seeking personal bests. Alongside the competitive race, reserved for FIDAL-registered athletes and sports promotion bodies, there is a 5 km non-competitive fun run, open to amateur runners, families, and enthusiasts who want to enjoy the event without the pressure of a leaderboard.

A Running Tradition

Every edition draws hundreds of athletes from all over Italy, with peak years seeing nearly 800 participants. For years, the race has hosted various memorials and trophies dedicated to historic figures of the local and regional running scene, such as the Francesco Carusi Memorial, the Antonio Tacconelli Memorial, and the Salvatore Rastelli and Mario Alfonsi trophies, making Su e Giù per Giulianova a meaningful moment of community and remembrance.
