About Stabat Mater & Jesus

The Romanesque Basilica of Agliate, in Carate Brianza, hosts the inaugural concert of the "Four Seasons of a Growing Community" review, designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Foundation of the Community of Monza and Brianza. A program spanning four centuries of music, from Vivaldi and Handel to Philip Glass and Gavin Bryars, entrusted to mezzo-soprano Michela Guerrera, the Canova Chamber Orchestra conducted by Enrico Pagano, and the Anthem Choir of Monza. An opportunity to listen to great sacred and contemporary music in the evocative setting of one of the oldest churches in Brianza, with free admission.

Music and Community in Agliate

Within the naves of the ancient Basilica of SS. Pietro e Paolo in Agliate, an 11th-century Romanesque jewel in the municipality of Carate Brianza (province of Monza and Brianza), the "Four Seasons of a Growing Community" review begins. The inaugural concert is designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Foundation of the Community of Monza and Brianza, an organization committed to supporting the territory.

Four Centuries in a Single Concert

The program combines classical and contemporary, spanning four centuries of music history. On the program are Antonio Vivaldi's Stabat Mater, the aria He was despised from Georg Friedrich Händel's Messiah, Philip Glass's Company for strings, and Gavin Bryars's famous Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet. A listening journey that dialogues the great Baroque sacred tradition with the minimalist languages of the 20th century.

The Performers

The protagonists of the evening are mezzo-soprano Michela Guerrera, the Canova Chamber Orchestra conducted by maestro Enrico Pagano, and the Anthem Choir of Monza led by Paola Versetti, in collaboration with Cori Lombardia. A high-level ensemble for a concert that enhances both the music and the architectural heritage of Agliate.

A Local Event

The review benefits from the collaboration of the Municipality of Carate Brianza, the Pastoral Community of the Holy Spirit, the Friends of the Basilica of Agliate, and the BCC of Carate Brianza and Treviglio. Admission is free, confirming the Foundation's commitment to making culture and beauty available to the entire Brianza community.
