The spring festival in the historic center of San Giovanni in Marignano
Spring in the Square is one of the most beloved events in the calendar of San Giovanni in Marignano, a village in the province of Rimini known as "the granary of the Malatesta", in Emilia-Romagna. Every year, on the last Sunday of March, the historic center transforms into a large open-air garden: from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the squares and streets of the town welcome the arrival of the beautiful season with a widespread program that intertwines nature, craftsmanship, wellness, and culture.
The heart of the event is the spring market, which invades Piazza Silvagni, Via XX Settembre, Via Roma, and Largo della Libertà with exhibitors of plants and flowers of all kinds, herbal products, local crafts, and typical gastronomic specialties. There are also exhibitions dedicated to greenery and nature, including the appreciated bonsai and suiseki exhibition curated by the Romagna Bonsai Club and, in some editions, an exhibition of vintage cars and motorcycles curated by the local Moto Club.
The day offers numerous activities for all ages: classes of yoga, meditation, and pranayama, floral and creative workshops, Eastern techniques such as Sumi-e painting and wicker basket weaving, reflexology, and Tibetan bowls. Ample space is also given to nature education, with microscopy workshops, meetings with experts on the valley's fauna, and guided walks to discover the river environment.
The little ones find a dedicated program with the farmer's yard, farm animals, rides in vintage carts, and introductory horse riding lessons at the Equestrian Center. Completing the offer are treasure hunts, educational games, face painting, entertainment, and art workshops designed for the younger generation.
In the afternoon, the festival is enriched with musical moments, with songs of Italian and international popular tradition and concerts in the churches of the center, where the ancient 18th-century organs also resonate. An opportunity to discover the historical and religious heritage of the Marignano village.
Organized by Promo D with the patronage of the Municipality of San Giovanni in Marignano and the collaboration of local associations, Primavera in Piazza is an entirely free event that attracts thousands of visitors every year from all over Valconca and the Romagna Riviera, officially marking the beginning of spring in the area.
The 2026 edition, the seventeenth, confirmed the success of the event with a widespread program across Piazza Silvagni, Via XX Settembre, Via Roma, and Largo della Libertà . Space was given to markets of plants, flowers, herbs, and crafts, the bonsai and suiseki exhibition by Romagna Bonsai Club, and the vintage car and motorcycle exhibition by the Moto Club Enzo Vanni.
Among the day's highlights were microscopy workshops (10:00 AM-1:00 PM) and meetings with a biologist dedicated to the valley's vertebrates, as well as the guided excursion "Where has the river gone?". For the little ones, the farmer's yard with animals, rides in vintage carts, and introductory horse riding at the Equestrian Center. Numerous wellness activities were offered: yoga for adults and children, Dien Chan reflexology, meditation with Tibetan bowls, and Sumi-e painting. The day concluded with the concert "Laudato sii" in the Church of San Pietro and performances on the 18th-century organ.
