The Frühjahrskonzert der Musikkapelle Mühlwald is the most anticipated musical event of the year for the small village of Selva dei Molini/Mühlwald in the Ahrntal valley, located in the upper Puster Valley (Autonomous Province of Bolzano, South Tyrol). Every spring, the village band takes the stage at the Vereinshaus to treat the community to an evening of wind music, continuing a tradition that has been going strong for over four decades.

A band with over 150 years of history

The Musikkapelle Mühlwald was founded in 1866 and is one of the many bands affiliated with the Verband Südtiroler Musikkapellen (VSM), the federation representing brass ensembles across South Tyrol. The group consists of approximately 55 active musicians, accompanied by the Marketenderinnen (traditional costume-clad attendants) and the standard-bearer. As in many South Tyrolean villages, the band is more than just a musical ensemble; it is a pillar of local social life, performing at processions, religious holidays, and civic events.

The program

The concert features a diverse repertoire designed to guide the audience from classical brass traditions to contemporary arrangements for wind orchestra. The program alternates between overtures, marches, polkas, and modern symphonic pieces, all performed under the baton of conductor Klemens Mair.
