Masks, music, and festivities along the seafront of one of Italy's most beautiful villages
The Sperlonga Carnival is the masquerade celebration of the famous seaside village on the Riviera di Ulisse, in the province of Latina, Southern Lazio. For one afternoon, the Via Cristoforo Colombo seafront transforms into a true open-air dance floor, filled with music, games, and entertainment for all ages. It is a carnival with an authentic, family-friendly atmosphere: no massive floats, just colorful masks, confetti, group dances, and a great sense of community, all set against the backdrop of the winter sea.
The 2026 event is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, starting at 3:00 PM on Via Cristoforo Colombo. The afternoon is tailor-made for families:
In case of bad weather, the party continues: the event moves indoors to the Centro Polivalente on Via Romita.
The heart of the event is the costume parade along the seafront, open to everyone: children, families, groups of friends, and organized teams. The prize for the best-costumed group inspires creativity every year, featuring themed outfits, ironic disguises, and improvised choreography. It is the most photographed moment of the day, when Via Cristoforo Colombo fills with colors and confetti.
The carnival is also a perfect opportunity to discover Sperlonga out of season. Listed among the "Borghi piรน belli d'Italia" (Most Beautiful Villages in Italy), the town enchants visitors with its historic center of white houses perched on the promontory, alleys winding down to the beaches, and an exceptional archaeological heritage: just minutes from the seafront are the Villa of Tiberius with its famous Grotto and the National Archaeological Museum, which houses sculptural groups dedicated to the exploits of Ulysses. In winter, the village is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, far from the summer crowds.
The Sperlonga Carnival is a grassroots initiative: it is supported by local businesses and community associations that join forces to give the town of Sperlonga an afternoon of shared celebration. It follows the typical formula of village carnivals in lower Lazio, where the family atmosphere matters more than grand spectacle: a genuine way to experience the carnival tradition of the Lazio region, amidst music, masks, and community spirit.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Sperlonga Carnival brought the Via Cristoforo Colombo seafront to life starting at 3:00 PM, following the tried-and-tested village festival formula for all ages. Children were the stars of the afternoon, enjoying baby dance, recreational activities, and photos with Super Mario, the special guest of the edition. For adults, 70s and 80s music provided a street-dance atmosphere, while the costume parade awarded the prize for the best group. Free cotton candy was available for all participants. In case of bad weather, the alternative venue of the Centro Polivalente on Via Romita was planned. The event, with free admission, was supported by local businesses and associations in Sperlonga, in the province of Latina.
Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 3:00 PM, on Via Cristoforo Colombo (in case of bad weather: Centro Polivalente, Via Romita):
By car: Sperlonga is reached via the SS213 Via Flacca, from Terracina in the north or from Gaeta and Formia in the south. By train: Fondi-Sperlonga station (Rome-Naples line via Formia), then take a bus or taxi to the village (about 10 km).
Free event, open to the public, along Via Cristoforo Colombo from 3:00 PM. In case of bad weather, the party moves to the Centro Polivalente on Via Romita.
