Free open-air cinema in the green of Municipality 4, with the Milano Film Fest
Sparkles is the distributed heart of the Milano Film Fest: a program of free open-air screenings that travels through all nine Municipalities of Milan, transforming gardens, courtyards, and squares into temporary cinemas. The goal is democratic and explicit — to bring great cinema even where it usually doesn't reach, making it an occasion for meeting and community.
In Municipality 4, the Sparkles stop takes place at the Garden of Cultures, a green and civic space between Via Morosini and Via Daniele Crespi, in the Porta Vittoria neighborhood. Here, at 9:30 PM, The Last Time We Were Children is screened, a film directed by Claudio Bisio and based on the novel by Fabio Bartolomei, a story set during World War II that intertwines childhood innocence with the drama of the Shoah.
The screening is completely free, like all Sparkles evenings, and each event is accompanied by an introduction by directors or experts who present the film to the audience. A simple and welcoming format, designed for families, neighborhood residents, and cinema enthusiasts.
Sparkles is one of the souls of the Milano Film Fest, the city of Milan's film festival, which takes place in the first days of June with competitions for feature films and short films, out-of-competition screenings, and distributed events. The open-air program is supported by Fondazione Cariplo and the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Milan, testifying to a vision of cinema as a tool for social cohesion.
The evening of June 4, 2026, at the Garden of Cultures is one of the eighteen free screenings in the Sparkles program, distributed across all nine Municipalities of Milan during the Milano Film Fest (June 3-8, 2026). Supported by Fondazione Cariplo, the program brings auteur cinema to the public spaces of the neighborhoods.
The film chosen for this stop is "The Last Time We Were Children" by Claudio Bisio, a work that delicately addresses the theme of the Shoah through the eyes of children. The screening is preceded by an introduction, and access is completely free.
The evening is part of the Sparkles program, eighteen open-air screenings spread across Milan's nine Municipalities as part of the Milano Film Fest 2026.
