A festival that gives a voice to the South

The Sonoro Sud Festival is one of the most carefully curated musical events in the Apulian winter calendar. Every February, for three evenings, the Teatro Comunale di Ruvo di Puglia (in the province of Bari) turns into a sonic lounge where jazz meets folk music, world music, and singer-songwriter traditions. The artistic direction of Livio Minafra

The festival is conceived and directed by Livio Minafra, a pianist and composer who rejects rigid boundaries between genres and styles. His programming approach is that of a journey rather than a simple sequence of concerts: each edition features a common thread, a color, or a theme that ties the evenings together. Born as an offshoot of the more famous Talos Festival, Sonoro Sud inherits its dedication to research and cross-pollination, but brings it into a more intimate, cozy dimension—that of a provincial theater becoming a stage of international scope.

Three evenings, two concerts per night

The formula is simple and generous: each evening features two concerts, with doors opening at 7:30 PM and shows starting at 7:45 PM. The stage hosts a mix of prepared organettos and Hammond organs, saxophones and accordions, women's choirs, and tributes to the great masters of the 20th century. It is a program that blends established names from the jazz scene with new local voices, with a special focus on women's stories and Mediterranean roots.

Ruvo di Puglia and its musical tradition

It is no coincidence that all this takes place in Ruvo di Puglia, a town in the Bari hinterland known for its archaeological heritage and vibrant cultural tradition. The festival is organized by the Terra Gialla Cultural Association with the support of Puglia Culture, Puglia Sounds, the Luna nel Letto theater company, and the Municipality of Ruvo di Puglia, demonstrating how deeply rooted the event is in the community fabric.
