The Sondrio Kids' Carnival

The Kids' Carnival is the traditional carnival celebration in Sondrio, the capital of Valtellina. Organized by the city's Oratories together with the Municipality, the event enlivens the city centre with a colourful masked parade, designed primarily for the younger generation but capable of engaging the entire community.

The Parade

The procession starts from the Salesians' courtyard, on Via Don Bosco, and crosses the city centre streets — Via Piazzi, Piazza Campello, Corso Italia — leading to Piazza Garibaldi. Amidst allegorical floats, masked groups, and marching bands, the streets of Sondrio fill with music, confetti, and joy.

The Celebration in the Square

Upon arrival, the celebration continues in the square with music, entertainment, and street food. This is the moment when children and families gather to share the fun of Carnival, in an afternoon that has become a regular fixture of the Sondrio winter. Registration for the parade is free.

Sondrio, the smallest provincial capital in Italy by area, knows how to transform its historic centre into a festive stage. The Kids' Carnival is one of the most cherished occasions, uniting the Valtellina community in Lombardy around the joy of Carnival.
