The Valle Soana Games Without Frontiers in Ronco Canavese
The SOANIADI are the valley's very own take on the famous "Games Without Frontiers": a day of team trials, playful challenges, and outdoor tournaments held in Ronco Canavese, the main town of the Soana Valley, in the heart of the Canavese area and the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Ronco, was launched in 2025 and is part of the rich program of the San Giusto Patronal Feast, the most anticipated moment of the Ronco summer.
The format captures the spirit of the traditional "Games Without Frontiers" on a smaller scale: teams, consisting of eight members, represent the various municipalities and hamlets of the valley. Between skill trials, timed races, and group challenges, the SOANIADI focus primarily on fun and that healthy local rivalry that has always connected the villages of the Soana Valley. The competitions take place outdoors, between Via Alpetta and the sports field in Ronco Canavese, with the captains' meeting held at the multi-purpose hall.
Beyond the competition, the SOANIADI are a gathering point for valley residents and the many vacationers who enliven Ronco Canavese during the summer months. The atmosphere is that of a traditional mountain village festival: large crowds cheering from the sidelines, support for one's own municipal team, and a day spent together in high spirits.
Ronco Canavese is located in the upper part of the Soana Valley, one of the Gran Paradiso valleys in the province of Turin. The village, nestled in a stunning alpine setting, provides a natural backdrop for an event that celebrates the traditions and community life of the valley. The SOANIADI represent one of the most successful additions to the local summer calendar, engaging both young and old during the patron saint celebrations.
Following the success of the first edition, the SOANIADI return to Ronco Canavese for their second edition, scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2026, during the San Giusto Patronal Feast. Organization is handled by the Pro Loco of Ronco, which has called a preparatory meeting to coordinate teams and trials.
Once again this year, teams made up of members from the various municipalities of the Soana Valley will compete in timed trials and group games in the spirit of the Games Without Frontiers. The competitions will be held outdoors, between Via Alpetta and the village sports field.
The detailed program of the trials and the schedule for the second edition will be announced by the Pro Loco of Ronco in the weeks leading up to the event. Based on the first edition, the day includes a captains' meeting at the multi-purpose hall in the afternoon and the start of the outdoor competitions between Via Alpetta and the sports field, with eight-member teams representing the municipalities of the Soana Valley.
The challenge between the teams from the different municipalities of the Soana Valley and the event's inclusion in the San Giusto Patronal Feast celebrations.
Ronco Canavese can be reached by car by driving up the Soana Valley from Pont Canavese; from Turin, take the expressway to Cuorgnรจ and then the provincial road leading into the valley. The nearest train station is in Pont Canavese (Canavesana line), from where you can continue by car or local connections.
