The festival of historic Friuli
The sMAiLAfiesta Furlana and the Feast of the Emigrant take place between the end of July and the beginning of August in the hamlet of Villanova-Malafesta, in the municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento (Metropolitan City of Venice). This is an area of historic Friuli within eastern Veneto, where the Friulian language is still alive and part of the local identity.
Culture, theatre, and memory
The program combines theatre, music, poetry, history, and Friulian culture, in a journey that enhances the community's roots. The Feast of the Emigrant, in particular, celebrates the memory of those who left to seek fortune far away, keeping alive the bond with their homeland: a tradition that in 2025 reached its 41st edition, while the sMAiLAfiesta celebrated its seventh.
Community and conviviality
Alongside cultural events, the festival offers convivial moments with traditional dishes, at the sports facilities of Villanova-Malafesta. Organized by the Polisportiva Malafesta-Villanova, the event is a strong statement of identity, capable of uniting the defence of Friulian culture with the sense of community in this corner of eastern Veneto.
Smailafiesta and Feast of the Emigrant — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the sMAiLAfiesta Furlana and the Feast of the Emigrant will take place between late July and early August in Villanova-Malafesta (San Michele al Tagliamento, VE), continuing the 2025 edition which celebrated the 7th Smailafiesta and the 41st Feast of the Emigrant.
The program combines theatre, music, poetry, history, and Friulian culture, with convivial moments at the hamlet's sports facilities. At the time of writing, the precise dates for 2026 have not yet been published: the schedule will be released by Polisportiva Malafesta-Villanova and the Municipality.
