The music industry convention bridging Palermo and Catania
The Sicily Music Conference is one of Southern Italy's most significant events dedicated to the music industry. Every year in May, the festival unfolds across Palermo and Catania, transforming Sicily into a crossroads for artists, industry insiders, labels, festivals, and professionals from across Europe and the Mediterranean. The goal is twofold: to provide training and networking opportunities for music professionals and to offer tangible visibility to emerging artists through live showcases and pathways toward the international market.
In the Sicilian capital, the conference comes to life at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, within the spaces of Crezi Plus and Spazio Franco, as well as at the Punk Funk club. It is in these venues—symbols of Palermo's cultural regeneration—that the panels, workshops, and initial showcases are concentrated before the event moves to Catania for its second leg. The Municipality of Palermo and the entire Sicilian Region provide the backdrop for an event that weaves together music, education, and reflection on the future of the sector.
The program alternates between in-depth discussions and entertainment. The panels address hot topics such as artificial intelligence in music, musicians' rights, cultural migration, mental health in the music industry, and the live music economy. The workshops offer practical sessions on music production, set design, specialized journalism, and large-scale event organization. Finally, the showcases bring selected bands and projects to the stage, evaluated by an international jury, offering emerging artists a high-profile platform.
The Sicily Music Conference stands out for its free admission: free registration grants access to panels, workshops, and masterclasses. Produced by Gomad Concerti, the event receives hundreds of applications from across Europe and the Mediterranean each year, confirming its status as a benchmark for those looking to enter the music world or expand their professional network. Between networking, DJ sets, and concerts, the conference combines a professional dimension with a festive spirit, in true Sicilian style.
The itinerant structure, connecting the island's two main cities, is a hallmark of the event: two stages, two audiences, and a single narrative about music as an urgent form of expression and a tool for connection. For enthusiasts and professionals alike, the Sicily Music Conference represents a unique opportunity to experience Sicily from a contemporary and creative perspective.
The fifth edition of the Sicily Music Conference was held from May 13 to 16, 2026, with the Palermo leg on May 13 and 14 at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa (Crezi Plus and Spazio Franco) and Punk Funk, followed by the Catania leg on May 15 and 16. This year's theme, "Back to the riot", focused on the creative and social function of music.
The program featured numerous panels on artificial intelligence, cultural migration, musicians' rights, and mental health, as well as workshops like "Beat & Trauma" with Sarafine, Damir Ivic, and Pisk, sessions on immersive set design, music journalism, and large-scale event organization. The Showcase Festival brought 18 bands and three "Ready To Export" artists to the stage, selected by an international jury including Amazon Italia, Sziget Festival, and Tallinn Music Week, featuring names such as Shkodra Elektronike, Lucy Dreams, Gold Mass, and Madame Gandhi.
Admission was free with mandatory registration. The event is produced by Gomad Concerti and organized in the heart of the Municipality of Palermo, in Sicily.
In Palermo, the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa are located on Via Paolo Gili and can be reached by bus from the city center or by car. Falcone-Borsellino Airport in Punta Raisi is connected to the city by the Trinacria Express train and shuttle buses.
Access is free, but online registration is mandatory to attend panels, workshops, and masterclasses.
The event takes place over four days in total between Palermo and Catania: it is advisable to check the program on the official website in advance to plan your travel between the two cities.
