A gourmet village in the heart of Calatafimi-Segesta
The Segesta Food Festival is a food and wine event that transforms Piazza Nicolò Mazara, in the heart of the historic center of Calatafimi-Segesta (Trapani province), into a vibrant gourmet village. Conceived and organized by Italrent, the event aims to promote the culinary culture of Western Sicily, bringing stalls, tastings, and products to the square that tell the story and identity of a land rich in tradition.
The festival focuses on typical and traditional products from the Sicilian hinterland: from raw materials grown in the inland countryside to small-scale local artisanal goods. Each stall is designed as an opportunity to discover and sample regional specialties, highlighting local producers and the short supply chain. The offerings include traditional sweets, such as confetti and the famous cucciddati, which are expressions of a popular pastry tradition deeply linked to local festivities.
The Segesta Food Festival takes place concurrently with the Feast of the Most Holy Crucifix, one of the oldest and most deeply felt religious observances in the town, with origins dating back to 1657. After a long hiatus, the festival has returned to enliven the streets of Calatafimi-Segesta with processions, traditional guild pageants, and the tossing of sweets and flowers along the streets. In this context, the gourmet village enriches the experience for visitors, blending popular devotion, tradition, and conviviality.
In its inaugural edition, the Segesta Food Festival positions itself as a new showcase for Western Sicily and the municipality of Calatafimi-Segesta, located just a few kilometers from the famous Segesta Archaeological Park with its Doric temple and ancient theater. It is an ideal stop for those wishing to combine the discovery of historical and archaeological heritage with the pleasure of fine Sicilian cuisine.
From May 1 to 3, 2026, Piazza Nicolò Mazara hosted the first edition of the Segesta Food Festival, organized by Italrent. The stalls, open from 11:00 AM, featured typical and traditional products from the Sicilian hinterland, ranging from raw materials from the inland countryside to small-scale artisanal production, with a special focus on short supply chains and the promotion of local producers.
The event was part of the Feast of the Most Holy Crucifix celebrations, a tradition dating back to 1657 that returned to enliven the town after a long hiatus, featuring processions and traditional guild pageants. Admission to the gourmet village was free.
