The ancient spring rite of burning the Old Woman amidst floats, music, and Romagna tradition
The Festa della Segavecchia is an event rooted in the popular tradition of Misano Adriatico, a town on the Romagna Riviera in the province of Rimini, Emilia-Romagna. It is one of the oldest festivals in the area, attracting thousands of visitors to the town center every spring, between Piazza della Repubblica, Via della Repubblica, and Piazzale Roma.
The heart of the festival is a rite of peasant origin linked to the transition from winter to spring. According to local legend, a woman broke the Lenten fast by eating meat on a Thursday, symbolically becoming responsible for all the ills of the past agricultural season. The figure of the Vecchia embodies this myth and, at the end of the celebrations, is set ablaze in a large propitiatory bonfire, a gesture that closes winter and welcomes the warmer season. The burning is followed by a spectacular fireworks display that lights up the Misano sky.
For two days, the center of Misano Adriatico transforms into a large open-air stage. Among the most anticipated events is the parade of allegorical floats created by neighborhood committees, accompanied by flag bearers. There are also exhibitions of historic motorcycles in Piazzale Roma with a related parade, traditional games, and workshops for children, as well as concerts and dance orchestras that liven up the evening in Piazza della Repubblica.
Along the streets of the center, there are markets, artisan stalls, street food with Romagna specialties, and a funfair for the little ones. It is a festival designed for the whole family, where tradition and fun coexist in a popular and welcoming atmosphere, typical of Romagna.
The 2026 edition of the Festa della Segavecchia confirmed the charm of one of Romagna's oldest popular festivals, animating the center of Misano Adriatico for two days of tradition and fun. Exhibitions, traditional games, workshops for children, historic motorcycles, and stalls accompanied the public until the concluding rite of the Vecchia's bonfire.
For both days: funfair, markets, and street food in the town center.
