The oldest event in the Soligo Valley, featuring wool, the abbey, and fireworks
The Secular Pentecost Festival is the oldest event in the Soligo Valley and one of the defining traditions of Follina, a village in the province of Treviso famous for its Cistercian abbey. The festival dates back to the 13th century and is historically linked to the wool trade, an activity that characterized the village's economy for centuries.
Tradition recalls the pilgrimage of the "Pagot", the inhabitants of Alpago who were involved in wool production. On the day after Pentecost, they would descend to Follina to venerate the Madonna. This ancient connection gives rise to a festival that still today combines popular devotion, textile heritage, and community life.
During the festival, the village comes alive with craft markets, food stalls offering local specialties, and opportunities to explore the area: guided tours of the Lanificio Paoletti, a historic Follina wool mill still in operation, and walks or bike rides through the UNESCO World Heritage Prosecco hills. There's also a funfair, the Tombolissima (grand lottery), and musical evenings.
The climax of the festival is the fireworks display that lights up the Follina sky, marking the end of the celebration. An eagerly awaited event for residents and visitors, set against the backdrop of the rolling Veneto hills.
The 2026 edition of the Secular Pentecost Festival returns to animate Follina during the week of Pentecost. In 2026, Pentecost falls on Sunday, May 24th, and the festival will unfold in the days surrounding this date, remaining true to the tradition linked to the pilgrimage of the Pagot from Alpago.
Confirmed by local press (qdpnews.it) as the oldest event in the Soligo Valley, the festival features a craft market in the village streets, visits to the Paoletti Wool Mill, walks and bike rides through the Prosecco hills, food stalls, a funfair, and the traditional Tombolissima (grand lottery).
