Author encounters across the squares and gardens of Cannobio, on the shores of Lake Maggiore
The "Scrittori in giardino" Literary Festival is the event that transforms Cannobio into an open-air literary salon during the summer months. Overlooking the waters of Lake Maggiore, at the northern tip of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province in Piedmont, this village with its timeless atmosphere hosts authors for a series of meetings that combine book presentations, dramatic readings, and live music.
Each event revolves around a book and its author, engaging in dialogue with a moderator before the public. The evenings are made special by dramatic readings of excerpts from the works and live musical accompaniment, which provides a counterpoint to the words. The meetings take place in charming locations in the historic center of Cannobio, including the courtyard of the Palazzo Mandamentale on Via A. Giovanola and the gardens of the village's historic residences, with an indoor alternative available in case of bad weather.
The festival is conceived and curated by the ConeSsenzateatro theater association, which brings its sensitivity for the theatrical dimension and direct connection with the audience to the world of literature. The result is a cultural proposal that moves beyond the usual book presentation format to become a small performance, where the written word, voice, and sound intertwine.
The festival is part of a rich calendar of summer events that enliven Cannobio and the Alto Verbano from April to autumn, featuring music, culture, and tradition. Strolling through the village before or after an encounter means discovering the lakefront, the medieval alleys, and the unique atmosphere of one of the most beloved towns on the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore.
For book lovers and those looking for a different kind of summer, dedicated to culture and beauty, "Scrittori in giardino" is an unmissable appointment on the cultural agenda of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola region.
The 4th edition of the "Scrittori in giardino" Literary Festival takes place in Cannobio during the summer months of 2026, with meetings spread across June, July, and August. The festival confirms the formula that led to its success: book presentations enriched by dramatic readings and live musical accompaniment, hosted in the open-air spaces of the historic center.
The inaugural evening is scheduled for June 26, 2026, at 8:30 PM, at the Palazzo Mandamentale (Via A. Giovanola 25), with the presentation of the novel "Ferrovie del Messico" by Gian Marco Griffi. In case of bad weather, the meetings will move to an indoor venue. Admission to all events is free.
