The 24-hour regatta around the island of Ischia
The ScheriaCup24 is the most anticipated sailing regatta on the island of Ischia, a spring event that draws some of the most competitive crews from Campania and across the country to the waters of Forio every year. The format is as simple as it is spectacular: a timed competition lasting twenty-four hours, during which boats must cover the highest number of nautical miles by completing full laps around the island. The winner is the one who accumulates the most miles by the time the clock runs out.
Due to its intensity and the strategy required from the crews, the ScheriaCup24 is known as the "Le Mans 24 Hours of the Tyrrhenian Sea." The course embraces the entire perimeter of the island of Ischia and, in some editions, extends to touch Procida, turning the stretch of sea in the Gulf of Naples into a large marine velodrome visible from the coast. Alongside the main event runs the ScheriaCupXS, a shorter version limited to the first lap of the island with a maximum time of eight hours, designed to open the challenge to mini-offshore vessels and smaller hulls.
The event is organized by the Italian Naval League - Ischia Section in collaboration with the Municipality of Forio, the Marina of Forio, the UVAI, and the Italian Sailing Federation, and is now a permanent fixture on the regional sailing calendar of Campania and the national one. The start is signaled from the evocative Piazzale del Soccorso, one of Forio's iconic landmarks with its white church overlooking the sea, while activities on land enliven the village's Marina Quay.
In recent years, the ScheriaCup24 has been enriched with a program of side events dedicated to maritime culture, legality, and environmental sustainability. Institutional conferences, the Sailing Festival with stands from local associations, musical moments, and the national "Sea of Legality" campaign—which uses boats confiscated from criminal organizations for social activities—make the regatta much more than just a sporting race: it is a true community weekend.
The eleventh edition of the ScheriaCup24 enlivened Forio d'Ischia over the weekend of April 25 and 26, 2026, confirming itself as a benchmark event for offshore sailing in Campania and nationally, enriched this year by a rich calendar of side events dedicated to maritime culture, legality, and sustainability.
The day was accompanied by music from the Trio Flegreo, featuring Denis Trani, Leonardo Scotti di Monaco, and Daniele UBJK. Also highlighted was the presentation of the national "Sea of Legality" campaign, which utilizes boats confiscated from criminal organizations for social and cultural activities.
Forio is located on the western coast of the island of Ischia, in the Gulf of Naples. The island can be reached by ferries and hydrofoils from the ports of Naples (Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa) and Pozzuoli; from Ischia Porto, local buses and taxis connect to Forio in about 30-40 minutes.
The race is visible from the island's coast: the panoramic viewpoints of Forio, such as the Piazzale del Soccorso, offer an excellent view of the start. Activities on land are concentrated at the Marina Quay of Forio.
