The Carnival of a City
In Saronno, in the province of Varese, Carnival is one of the most beloved events of winter. A two-day festival that enlivens the city centre with masks, music, and floats, involving children, families, and associations in a spirit of shared joy. Organised by the Municipality of Saronno and the Pro Loco Saronno, it is a tradition that unites the entire community.
Villa Gianetti's Little Masks
On the first day, the festival kicks off in the garden of Villa Gianetti with the "Most Beautiful Little Masks" competition: an opportunity for the little ones to show off their costumes and compete in charm. Afterwards, the Pro Loco offers a magic and clown show to entertain children and the public. In case of bad weather, the event moves indoors to the Regina Pacis Theatre.
The Grand Parade of Floats
The highlight is the parade of allegorical floats, which crosses the city streets starting from Via Sabotino. Each year the parade follows a different theme, transforming the city streets into a fantasy world populated by characters and sets. The festival concludes in Piazza Libertà with music, entertainment, and fun for families and children.
A Festival for the Whole City
The Saronno Carnival is an event open to everyone, focusing on community participation and creativity. For those visiting the Altomilanese area in winter, it is an opportunity to experience a genuine and colourful local festival, in the heart of a city with strong associative traditions.
Saronno Carnival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Saronno Carnival is scheduled for Friday, February 20th and Saturday, February 21st. On Friday the 20th, from 2:30 PM, the "Most Beautiful Little Masks" competition will be held in the garden of Villa Gianetti, followed by a magic and clown show offered by the Pro Loco (in case of bad weather, at the Regina Pacis Theatre, Via Roma 119).
On Saturday the 21st, at 2:30 PM, the grand parade of floats starts from Via Sabotino. The 2026 theme is "Alice in Wonderland... Card games, chess and fantasy!", a tribute to the world of Lewis Carroll. The festival concludes in Piazza Libertà with music and entertainment for all.

Saronno is located in the province of Varese, well-connected to Milan. It is served by multiple train stations (Trenord and Ferrovienord lines). The events take place in the centre and at Villa Gianetti, in Via Roma.
