The grand parade of allegorical floats in the village of Santarcangelo
The Carnival of Santarcangelo di Romagna is one of the most cherished events of the carnival season in Romagna. Every year, in the heart of winter, the medieval village in the province of Rimini fills with colors, music, and masks for the traditional parade of allegorical floats, attracting thousands of visitors from all over Emilia-Romagna.
The heart of the event is the procession of about fifteen allegorical floats, built by local associations and masked groups. The parade winds through the streets of the historic center amidst confetti and streamers, distributing sweets and gadgets to children watching from the sidelines. Accompanying the floats are musical bands, stilt walkers, face painters, and entertainers, for an afternoon of pure fun.
The Santarcangelo Carnival is designed primarily for families and children: masks, entertainment, music, and the unmissable ritual of the candy toss make the day a classic event to experience together. Each edition also features a special guest from the entertainment world, who livens up the party from the stage set up in the main square.
The backdrop for the festival is one of the most beautiful villages in the province of Rimini: the Municipality of Santarcangelo di Romagna, with its squares (Piazza Marini and Piazza Ganganelli), alleys, tuff caves, and typically Romagnol atmosphere. The Carnival offers an opportunity to discover the historic center in its most festive guise, combining popular tradition with local exploration.
The event is organized by Pro Loco Santarcangelo, Città Viva Santarcangelo, and GM Group, with the support of the Municipality of Santarcangelo di Romagna. Admission to the festival is free and open to all.
The 22nd edition of the Carnival of Santarcangelo di Romagna was held on Sunday, January 25, 2026. The grand parade of allegorical floats started from Piazza Marini around 2:30 PM, winding through the village streets to conclude in Piazza Ganganelli with music and the traditional candy and gadget toss.
The day was enlivened by about fifteen allegorical floats accompanied by the Rulli Frulli musical band, stilt walkers, face painters, and local associations. The event was hosted by Andrea Prada, with artistic direction by Mirco Guidi and the special guest appearance of showgirl Samira Lui.
Santarcangelo di Romagna is easily reachable by car from the A14 (Rimini Nord exit) and the Via Emilia. Santarcangelo train station is on the Bologna–Rimini–Ancona line, a few minutes' walk from the historic center.
The parade takes place in the historic center, starting from Piazza Marini and ending in Piazza Ganganelli, in the early afternoon. It is advisable to arrive early to find parking.
The event is completely free. Along the route and in the squares, there are entertainment, music, and festive moments for everyone.
