About Santa Corona Festival

Every June, Canepina, a charming village in the Cimini Mountains near Viterbo, honors its patron saint, Santa Corona, with a week of festivities blending religious devotion, local culture, and entertainment. The solemn procession featuring the Macchina di Santa Corona, philharmonic band performances, dialect theater, concerts, and fireworks bring the town squares to life, drawing residents and visitors alike into an atmosphere of authentic community spirit.

A patronal festival that unites faith and community

In the heart of the Cimini Mountains, the village of Canepina, located in the province of Viterbo in the Lazio region, dedicates an intense week of celebrations every June to its patron saint, Santa Corona the Martyr. The Santa Corona Patronal Festival is the most cherished event of the year for the local community: a time when religious devotion merges with social life, culture, and entertainment, involving the entire town.

The procession and the Macchina di Santa Corona

The spiritual core of the festival is the solemn procession held on the final Sunday. The day begins at dawn with the traditional wake-up call marked by loud detonations, followed by the laying of wreaths at the war memorials, and culminates in the transport of the Macchina di Santa Corona, accompanied by the philharmonic band through the streets of the historic center. The solemn Eucharistic concelebration seals the most intense moment of reflection before the festivities resume with music and performances.

A program packed with events

Alongside the religious dimension, the festival offers a varied calendar suitable for all ages. The town squares host book presentations, theatrical performances, and dialect comedies by the local amateur group, as well as fashion shows, cultural conferences, and concerts ranging from pop music to contemporary acts. There are also convivial moments such as the tombola draw and the grand fireworks display that closes the festival, lighting up the sky over the Cimini area.

Canepina and its identity

The very name of Canepina refers to hemp (canapa), a historic crop of this territory, a theme that still features in the festival's cultural initiatives today. Nestled in the chestnut woods of the Cimini area, the village preserves traditions linked to the land and craftsmanship, of which the patronal festival is the ultimate collective expression. The festivities are organized by the Santa Corona Festival Committee with the support of the Municipality of Canepina, the Province of Viterbo, and the Lazio Region.

An authentic experience in the Tuscia region

Participating in the Santa Corona Festival means experiencing the soul of a village in the Viterbo Tuscia area, where popular faith, hospitality, and a sense of togetherness can be felt in every corner. For visitors, it is the ideal opportunity to discover a still-authentic territory, featuring genuine flavors, nature, and a community that knows how to celebrate with pride and generosity.
