Four days of faith, tradition, and entertainment in the heart of the Castelli Romani
The Sant'Eurosia Patronal Feast is the most cherished event of the year for the town of Lariano, a village in the Metropolitan City of Rome, nestled between the Lepini Mountains and the Castelli Romani in the Lazio region. Every late May, the entire town gathers around its protector in a celebration that weaves together liturgy, civic memory, and popular entertainment.
The cult of Sant'Eurosia is rooted in ancient tradition: according to hagiographic accounts, the saint was a Bohemian noblewoman who suffered martyrdom in the 8th century. Venerated as the protector of the earth's fruits, she is invoked against storms, lightning, and hail—a devotion that reveals the agricultural soul of this territory, where vineyards, olive groves, and homemade bread remain symbols of identity. It is no coincidence that Lariano is part of the Castelli Romani Wine Cities circuit.
The calendar opens with a preparatory triduum, marked each year by a different meditative theme dedicated to the saint. The most anticipated moment is the enthronement of the Patron Saint's statue in the Church of Santa Maria Intemerata on Saturday morning, followed by the Rosary and Holy Mass in the afternoon.
On Saturday evening, the solemn procession winds through the town streets—the ritual that best represents the Lariano community. The statue is accompanied by the Lariano Historical Group, a marching band, and majorettes, amidst decorated houses and festive lights. Sunday features solemn masses, with the blessing of the relic concluding the spiritual journey.
Alongside the devotional aspect, the festival offers a completely free entertainment program in Piazza Sant'Eurosia, which serves as the town's stage for four nights. Recent years have featured ballroom orchestras, tributes to Italian music legends, 1990s-themed nights with dancers and animation, folk dance performances, and the awards ceremony for the photography contest dedicated to the most beautiful corners of Lariano.
A unique feature that distinguishes the Lariano festival is the choice of silent fireworks to close the final evening. The municipal administration adopted this format to make the show accessible to the elderly, young children, people with autism spectrum disorders, and pets. As the municipality noted, the festival "must be festive for everyone and never frightening for anyone." It is a small but significant detail that perfectly captures the inclusive spirit of this event.
Sant'Eurosia is not a festival built for tourism: it is a genuine celebration created by the people of Lariano for the people of Lariano, offering visitors an authentic glimpse of village life in Lazio. Those arriving from Rome or the nearby towns of Velletri, Artena, and Rocca di Papa will find, in a single evening, the procession, the band, the crowded square, and the simple hospitality of a village that lives on agriculture and tradition. The timing—late May—is one of the best periods to explore the Castelli Romani, when the days are long and the countryside around the Lepini Mountains is in full bloom.
From May 28th to 31st, 2026, the Municipality of Lariano celebrated its Patron Saint with a comprehensive program curated by the municipal administration and the Youth Council. The preparatory triduum was marked by three meditative themes: "Eurosia: Promised Bride," "Eurosia: Courageous Martyr," and "Eurosia: Pilgrim on the Path."
Piazza Sant'Eurosia hosted three evenings of free entertainment, ranging from live music by the Mirco and L'Ottava Nota Orchestra with the irresistible Signora Gilda, to an Achille Lauro tribute, and the grand finale dance show "Viva gli Anni 90." There was also space for the awards ceremony of the "Uno Scatto per Lariano" photography contest and performances by the folk dance group Tarantacco.
By car: from Rome, take the Via Casilina (SS6) or the A1 motorway (Valmontone exit), then follow signs for Artena–Lariano; approximately 40 km from the Grande Raccordo Anulare. Parking is available in the outskirts of the town center: during the procession and evening concerts, many central streets are closed to traffic.
By train + bus: take the FL4 line to Velletri or the Valmontone station, then use the Cotral bus lines to reach Lariano.
All events in Piazza Sant'Eurosia are free and open to the public. Evening shows generally start at 9:30 PM, and the solemn procession begins at 7:30 PM on Saturday.
Arrive early for the final evening, as it is the most crowded. The final fireworks are silent, making them suitable for families with small children. For accommodation, it is best to look in Velletri, Artena, or Rocca di Papa, where there is a wider range of options.
