The patronal feast of Cave

The San Lorenzo Festival is the most anticipated summer event in Cave, a town in the Prenestini Mountains within the Province of Rome, in the heart of Lazio. San Lorenzo is the town's co-patron, and his name is inextricably linked to the millennial Sanctuary of San Lorenzo, which dates back to the year 988: one of the most precious historical and spiritual treasures of the Cave community. Every year, around the August 10th anniversary, the town gathers around its saint for days of devotion, remembrance, and popular celebration.

Solemn rites and the procession

The religious heart of the celebration takes place between the Collegiata dell'Assunta and the Sanctuary of San Lorenzo. The days open with moments of communal prayer and meditation, continue with a reflective vigil, and culminate on August 10th with the solemn Mass and the procession through the streets of the historic center. During the pageant, the statue of the Saint and the venerated blood relic are carried, accompanied by the faithful in deep contemplation. The "Giacomo Puccini" Musical Band of Cave accompanies the rites, giving a solemn voice to the town's musical tradition.

The popular festival

Alongside the devotional dimension, the Pro Loco of Cave, with the patronage of the Municipality, enlivens the summer evenings with a rich program of entertainment. In past editions, events have also taken place in the setting of Villa Clementi Park, featuring live music concerts, cabaret shows, swing performances, and the traditional grand finale with a fireworks display. There is no shortage of activities for families, with puppet theaters, baby dance, magic shows, and entertainment for children in the late afternoon.
