About Sant'Erasmo Regatta

The Sant'Erasmo Regatta is an event in the Venetian rowing season that brings voga alla veneta to the waters of the northern lagoon, around the island of Sant'Erasmo, famous for its vegetable gardens and purple artichoke. Youngest, women's, and men's categories compete on pupparini and mascarete boats, in a day of sport and tradition far from the crowds of the historic center. An authentic regatta, where Venetian rowing intertwines with the life of one of the greenest and most genuine islands in the lagoon.

Voga alla Veneta on the Island of Gardens

The Sant'Erasmo Regatta is one of the races in the rowing season organized by the Municipality of Venice, held in the waters of the northern lagoon, around the island of Sant'Erasmo. Known as "the garden of Venice" for its agricultural vocation and the famous purple artichoke (castraura), the island provides the backdrop for an authentic and popular voga alla veneta regatta.

The Races

The Youngest Girls and Boys, Women, and Men categories compete on the water, on traditional boats such as pupparini and mascarete. The course takes place in the canal near the Maximilian Tower, with the finish line near the island's center.

A Regatta Off the Tourist Routes

Unlike the major regattas on the Grand Canal, the Sant'Erasmo Regatta maintains an intimate and community-focused dimension, frequented by rowing enthusiasts and island residents. It's an opportunity to discover a lesser-known side of Venice and the lagoon region of Veneto, characterized by vegetable gardens, canals, and rowing traditions passed down through generations.
