The Sant'Elpidio Patronal Feast is the most anticipated event of the year in Casapulla, a small town of just over eight thousand inhabitants in the province of Caserta, Campania, located just a few kilometers from the provincial capital. Every year, for the liturgical feast on May 26th, the town transforms to pay homage to its patron saint, Sant'Elpidio Vescovo, a figure of African origin who is deeply venerated throughout the region.
Devotion to Sant'Elpidio unites Casapulla with the neighboring town of Sant'Arpino, with which it shares the same protector: a spiritual and cultural bond strengthened over the years by a twinning between the two communities. The feast is therefore not just a local celebration, but an expression of a religious identity rooted in the territory, guarded and passed down from generation to generation.
The heart of the festival remains its spiritual dimension. On the patron saint's day, a solemn Holy Mass is celebrated, and in the afternoon, the procession of the statue of Sant'Elpidio begins, departing from Piazza Giovanni XXIII and winding through the streets of the center. Accompanied by confraternities, the marching band, and numerous faithful, the procession represents the most moving and well-attended moment of the entire event.
Alongside the religious aspects, the festival offers a rich secular program that enlivens the town's evenings. The squares, particularly Piazza San Roberto Bellarmino (also known as Piazza Mercato), host concerts and live musical performances. Recent editions have featured well-known names from Italian and Neapolitan pop music, along with comedy nights and tribute bands highly appreciated by the public. The marching band and majorettes accompany the traditional parades through the town streets, while the event concludes with the famous fireworks display, an unmissable moment that draws thousands of spectators.
During the festival days, there is no shortage of food stalls serving typical Campanian cuisine, craft markets, and games for children. The atmosphere is typical of Southern Italian patronal feasts: streets adorned with festive lights, families out until late at night, and a strong sense of community belonging.
The Sant'Elpidio Feast is an ideal opportunity to get to know the culture and popular traditions of the province of Caserta in a festive climate that engages both young and old.
The Sant'Elpidio Patronal Feast of 2026 renewed the appointment with the town's patron saint in Casapulla, in the province of Caserta, according to the tradition linked to the May 26th recurrence.
As every year, the program alternated between the religious dimension, with the solemn Holy Mass and the procession of the statue from Piazza Giovanni XXIII, and the secular one, with evening concerts in Piazza San Roberto Bellarmino, marching band parades through the streets, and the concluding fireworks display.
