The patronal feast of the Stella district, blending popular devotion and free performances at the foot of the Real Bosco
The Sant'Anna di Capodimonte Festival is one of those summer events that brings popular devotion back to the streets of Naples. It is celebrated in the Stella district, along Via Bosco di Capodimonte, right in front of the Porta Piccola of the Real Bosco—a stretch of the city where the greenery of the hill meets the dense, vertical fabric of the Neapolitan neighborhoods. Here, the feast of Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin and a beloved figure in Neapolitan religious life, becomes an opportunity for an open-air evening accessible to everyone, where local families mingle with visitors who have climbed up the hill.
This event is not isolated; it is part of the Patronal Feasts series, a project conceived, supported, and promoted by the Department of Tourism and Productive Activities of the Municipality of Naples. In 2026, the series reached its fourth edition, titled 'Beato chi le vive' (Blessed are those who experience them), running from June 1st to October 17th with twenty-six patronal feasts spread across all city municipalities. It is a rapidly growing initiative: from the original twelve events, it has expanded to twenty-two and now twenty-six, with attendance multiplying year after year.
The underlying idea is both simple and ambitious: to recognize patron saint feasts as an intangible heritage to be preserved, while also providing a reason for Neapolitans and visitors to discover neighborhoods that usually remain off the classic tourist trails. All events, including the one in Capodimonte, are completely free of charge.
The Sant'Anna di Capodimonte evening is built around musical and theatrical performances by local artists. This is a deliberate choice that prioritizes local voices and talent over big names: Neapolitan singers, musicians, and actors bring the repertoire of Neapolitan song, comedy sketches, and popular theater to the outdoor stage. The result is a community-focused show where the stage and the street almost blur, and the audience becomes a central part of the event.
We are in the Third Municipality of Naples, in the Campania region. The Stella district is one of the most layered areas of the city: it houses churches, catacombs, historic palaces, and intense street life, gradually rising toward the Capodimonte hill. The Porta Piccola, where the festival takes place, is one of the entrances to the Real Bosco di Capodimonte, the great historic Bourbon park surrounding the Museum and Real Bosco of Capodimonte, one of the most important museums in Italy.
This location gives the festival a unique character: popular devotion is celebrated just steps away from major monumental heritage, and the evening becomes an opportunity to traverse a piece of Naples that blends nature, Bourbon history, and daily neighborhood life.
Saint Anne is one of the most deeply rooted figures in Neapolitan religious life, and more than one district in the city dedicates its patronal feast to her at the end of July. Within the municipal series alone, the Capodimonte festival coexists with the feast of Sant'Anna alle Paludi, celebrated on Via Strettola Sant'Anna. This is not a duplication, but proof of how widespread the cult is: every neighborhood has its own church, its own brotherhood, its own memory, and its own way of celebrating.
Those arriving in Capodimonte for the festival will find an authentic atmosphere, free of tourist filters: the illuminations, the stalls, the scents of fried food and street sweets, groups of families settling along the street, and the stage lighting up at dusk. It is an evening best enjoyed without haste, arriving early to stroll through the area and staying until the end of the performances.
The Stella district celebrated Saint Anne on Saturday, July 25, 2026, starting at 7:00 PM along Via Bosco di Capodimonte, facing the Porta Piccola. The official program of the Municipality of Naples featured musical and theatrical performances with local artists, with free admission.
The event was one of twenty-six included in the Patronal Feasts — 'Beato chi le vive' series, promoted by the Department of Tourism and Productive Activities of the Municipality of Naples and presented at Palazzo San Giacomo. The 2026 calendar opened on June 1st with the Feast of Saint Erasmus at Granili and closed on October 17th with Saint Gaetano Errico in Secondigliano, covering all municipalities of Naples.
The Capodimonte evening was followed the next day by the Feast of Sant'Anna alle Paludi on July 26th on Via Strettola Sant'Anna, featuring Mr. Hyde in concert: two distinct celebrations of the same saint in two different neighborhoods of the city.
Official program published by the Municipality of Naples as part of the 2026 Patronal Feasts series (4th edition). Some local sources indicated the evening was on July 27th: the official municipal calendar lists July 25th.

By metro and bus: Metro Line 1 serves the Museo and Materdei stations, from which you can continue with ANM buses heading up toward Capodimonte (stops along Via Capodimonte and Via Miano). By train: From Naples Central Station (Piazza Garibaldi), you can reach the area via Metro Line 1 or city buses. By car: Take the Capodimonte or Corso Malta ring road exits; on festival nights, parking in the area is very difficult, so it is better to leave the car further away and take public transport.
Admission is free for all performances, as is the case for the entire 'Patronal Feasts' series by the Municipality of Naples. No reservations are required.
