The patronal feast of Scurelle featuring the gnocolada in Piazza Maggiore
The San Valentino Festival is the patronal feast of Scurelle, a village in the lower Valsugana valley in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Every year, in mid-February, the community gathers in Piazza Maggiore to honor the patron saints Martino and Valentino, to whom the ancient church overlooking the village from the slopes of Mount Soiane is dedicated—a building of medieval origin (13th-14th century).
The signature dish of the day is the gnocolada: massive pots of gnocchi prepared and served by volunteers, offered to all who visit the square. For several editions, a gluten-free version has also been available, designed for celiacs and those with intolerances, ensuring no one is left out of the feast. The entire event revolves around these gnocchi, creating a convivial atmosphere that unites both residents and visitors to the valley.
The festival is not just about gastronomy: the program includes an afternoon of music, the traditional wheel of fortune (the "vaso della fortuna") with its prizes, games, and entertainment. Falling during the Carnival period, the celebration is also brightened by the first costumed revelers, with children in fancy dress bringing the village streets to life.
Situated in a sunny position along the Brenta valley, Scurelle is a small municipality in the Valsugana Lagorai area, a region known for its nature, hiking trails, and rural traditions. The San Valentino Festival represents one of the most cherished winter events in the area: an opportunity to rediscover village conviviality and the most authentic Trentino cuisine on a festive Sunday.
The 2026 San Valentino Festival was held in Scurelle on Sunday, February 15, in Piazza Maggiore, starting in the late morning. As per tradition, the day revolved around the gnocolada, with gnocchi served to everyone and the usual gluten-free option. The afternoon was enlivened by music, the wheel of fortune, games, and the first Carnival costumes. In case of bad weather, postponement to the following Sunday was planned.
