San Rocco, a Ferragosto Fair
The San Rocco Fair is one of Magenta's (Province of Milan) traditional events. It is held every year on August 16th, the day dedicated to San Rocco, a fixed date that places it in the heart of the Ferragosto period. For an entire day, the city comes alive with street vendors' stalls, in a large open-air market.
A route through the city
The fair extends over a large route that includes Piazza Liberazione, Via Mazzini, Via Garibaldi, Via Villoresi, Via Matteotti, Via Santa Caterina da Siena, Via Santa Crescenzia, Via Fanti, Campo Aquile, and Piazza Kennedy. Approximately one hundred and sixty-six street vendors offer goods of all kinds, on a day that attracts visitors from all over the Magentino area.
A tradition with agricultural roots
The San Rocco Fair preserves the memory of its original agricultural vocation: an area of the event is dedicated to this tradition, recalling the historical link between the feast and the rural world of the territory. Today, the fair is primarily a major market and social event in the midst of Magenta's summer.
