A hamlet festival in the heart of Ciociaria

The San Giacomo Festival is one of the most cherished summer events in Casalvieri, a town in the province of Frosinone immersed in the lush landscape of the Comino Valley, in southern Lazio. The celebration takes place in the small hamlet of Sorelle, clustered around the church dedicated to Saint James, transforming the village streets into a lively meeting place for two days. Like many local patronal festivals in Ciociaria, the event is rooted in popular devotion and kept alive by the active participation of local families.

San Giacomo, the patron saint

The feast day falls around July 25th, when the Church celebrates Saint James the Greater, Apostle. In Sorelle, the festival traditionally spans two days, July 24th and 25th, with religious services marking the calendar: masses in the hamlet's church and the procession of the saint's statue through the streets, accompanied by the community. This is the spiritual heart of the event, around which the social gatherings develop.

Two days of tradition and community

Alongside the religious observances, the San Giacomo Festival offers the typical atmosphere of summer village feasts: music, stalls, social gatherings, and the chance to savor the flavors of Ciociarian cuisine. The festival is primarily designed for the residents of Casalvieri and neighboring hamlets, but it warmly welcomes visitors and emigrants returning to their hometown for the summer. The San Giacomo Festival is part of the Estate Casalvierana calendar, the summer program promoted by the Municipality of Casalvieri that enlivens the months of July and August with over twenty events spread between the historic center and the various hamlets. Music festivals, sports tournaments, food fairs, cultural moments, and religious feasts follow one another throughout the summer: the Sorelle festival is one of the most traditional stops in this rich program.
