About San Biagio Festival

At the beginning of February, the San Biagio neighborhood of Monza gathers around its patron saint with a neighborhood festival featuring stalls, open shops, and the traditional free tasting of the San Biagio panettone, which according to Lombard tradition is preserved and eaten on February 3rd to protect the throat. Amidst solemn masses, concerts, and community dinners, it is a popular festival that keeps alive the religious and neighborly tradition of the Brianza city.

The San Biagio neighborhood festival

The San Biagio Festival is the festival of the San Biagio neighborhood of Monza (Province of Monza and Brianza), dedicated to the patron saint of the throat. For a few days, at the beginning of February, the streets of the neighborhood — centered around via Carlo Prina and the San Biagio church — come alive with stalls, open shops, and initiatives that intertwine religious devotion and popular celebration.

The San Biagio panettone

The most heartfelt moment is linked to a purely Lombard tradition: the San Biagio panettone. According to custom, a piece of the Christmas panettone is kept to be eaten on February 3rd, San Biagio's day, as a good omen for throat health. During the festival, there is a free tasting of the panettone, distributed along with blessed bread.

Between faith and community

The program alternates religious appointments and convivial moments: the solemn mass, the blessing of the candles and the procession for Candlemas, the blessing with the saint's relic, but also concerts, conferences on the art of the San Biagio church, and a community dinner that concludes the celebrations. It is an authentic neighborhood festival, capable of strengthening neighborly bonds in one of Monza's historic neighborhoods.
