The patronal feast of the Madonna del Rosario
The most cherished festival in Desio (province of Monza and Brianza) is that of the Madonna del Rosario, which the people of Desio affectionately call «il Madunin». The occasion falls on the first Sunday of October and is accompanied by the local civic holiday on Monday, transforming the city center into a large festival space for four days.
The heart of the event is the Sagra del Madunin, with a themed village (in recent editions inspired by the world of fairy tales, «Once Upon a Time») full of games and workshops for children, stalls, markets, and abundant street food. Among the gastronomic offerings, the traditional «Trippa in piazza» is not to be missed.
Among the most beloved events is the VelociRun, a fun non-competitive race in dinosaur costumes that involves schools, shopkeepers, and families. The festival is also an opportunity for guided tours of the city's historic residences, Villa Tittoni and Villa Longoni, architectural jewels of Desio. Concerts by the city's musical bands, magic shows for children, and solidarity initiatives — such as the «Torta del Cuore» (Heart Cake) in support of the hospital — complete the program.
Organized jointly by the Pastoral Community, the Pro Loco Desio, and the Municipality, the Festa di Desio is the moment when the city comes together around its religious and popular roots, between Piazza Conciliazione and the gardens of the historic villas.
For 2026, the patronal feast of the Madonna del Rosario falls on the weekend of October 3 to 6, with Monday as the local civic holiday. The Sagra del Madunin features the themed village for children, markets, and street food in Piazza Conciliazione, the VelociRun dinosaur costume race, guided tours of Villa Tittoni and Villa Longoni, and charity initiatives. The festival is organized by the Pastoral Community with the Pro Loco Desio and the Municipality.
The detailed timetable is published by the Municipality of Desio in the weeks preceding the event.
