The patronal feast of Vallerano

Every year, in the second half of August, the municipality of Vallerano, in the province of Viterbo, transforms for five days into the beating heart of the Tuscia region. The Saint Victor Martyr Festival, dedicated to the village's patron saint, is considered one of the most well-known and popular festivals in the Viterbo area: a blend of religious devotion, live music, folk tradition, and pyrotechnics that draws thousands of visitors to this small village in the Cimini Mountains, in northern Lazio.

The transport of the Saint's machine

The most anticipated and heartfelt moment for the locals is the solemn Sunday afternoon procession, featuring the transport of the Saint Victor Martyr machine through the village streets. The structure carrying the patron's statue is lifted by the porters and led from the medieval historic center to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Ruscello, a baroque jewel of the village. Upon its return, the procession stops in the town center, where a thunderous ground-based pyrotechnic bombardment greets the Saint amidst the emotion of the faithful and the enthusiasm of tourists who have flocked for the occasion.

Free concerts in Piazza della Repubblica

Alongside the religious dimension, the festival is famous for the major free concerts that enliven Piazza della Repubblica every evening. Over the years, the stage has hosted names from the Italian music scene such as Equipe 84, Donatella Rettore, Bnkr44, Patagarri, and nationally renowned DJs like Fargetta, alongside themed evenings, dance performances, flag-waver and musician displays, and comedy nights. A lineup that blends generations and genres, always with free admission.

Fireworks among the most renowned in central Italy

The closing on Monday evening is entrusted to a grand firework display, long considered one of the most renowned in central Italy. Each year, the festival committee invites top-tier pyrotechnic firms—in 2025, Di Matteo Fireworks from Bagnoli Irpino made its debut in Vallerano—for a finale of lights and colors that illuminates the Cimini Mountains and brings the five-day festival to a spectacular close.

A community tradition

The organization is managed by the Saint Victor Martyr Religious Association through a festival committee that renews itself with every edition and involves the entire community. Among the most beloved events are the traditional tombola with rich cash prizes and the convivial moments in the village, famous throughout the Tuscia region for its chestnuts.
