Among the most deeply rooted events of the summer in Romano di Lombardia, in the province of Bergamo, the Saint Roch Festival takes place around the Sanctuary of Saint Roch, in Via San Rocco 32. It is a popular festival that combines devotional and convivial aspects, in the tradition of patronal festivals in the Bassa Bergamasca.

A week of celebration

For several days, around Ferragosto (mid-August), the sanctuary's square transforms into a large meeting point. The food stalls offer traditional Lombard dishes and accompany evenings of music and socializing. Among the most anticipated moments of the traditional calendar are the big tombola on the evening of August 15th and the fireworks display, which lights up the Romano sky, attracting a large audience.

Devotion and community

The festival originated around the figure of Saint Roch, a protector invoked against epidemics and highly venerated in Lombard popular culture. The festival is organized by the Saint Roch Festival Organization Committee, which involves volunteers and local entities every year.
