Saint Maurus, a village and solidarity festival

In Cortenova, a municipality in Valsassina in the province of Lecco, the Saint Maurus Festival is one of the most cherished spring events. For three days, the village gathers around the heated marquee in Piazza Umberto I, transformed into the vibrant heart of the event, featuring food, music, exhibitions, and moments of faith. A special characteristic elevates the festival: all proceeds are donated to charity.

Exhibitions, Tombola, and Workshops

The program blends culture and entertainment. The town hall hosts art exhibitions by local groups — Cortenovarte, Arteincontri, Chiacchiere e Colori — while the main square features a large tombola game, creative workshops for children, and dancing evenings with live bands. A prize draw, a highly anticipated event on Sunday evening, is also included.

The Religious Dimension

The festival retains its devotional core: the solemn mass at Alpe Lura followed by a torchlight procession, the solemn mass with a procession accompanied by the Santa Cecilia Musical Corps, and a mass in suffrage of the deceased to conclude. The Saint Maurus Fair on Monday brings market stalls to the town center, completing the picture of a festival that unites religious tradition, market, and social life.

Organized by the ValsaSnails Association with the support of the Cortenova Alpini group, the Saint Maurus Festival is an example of a community celebration where volunteering, tradition, and generosity merge. For the people of Cortenova, it is an opportunity to come together and, at the same time, to support charitable causes.
