About Saint Mark Pordenone

Every year, around April 25th, Pordenone gathers around its patron saint, Saint Mark, with four days that blend spirituality, great music, and city traditions. Sacred concerts, the solemn Pontifical Mass in the Co-Cathedral, the awarding of the Saint Mark Prizes, the Fortajada in the Seminary park, and the characteristic antique market animate the historic center of the Friulian capital.

A City United Around Its Patron Saint

April 25th is not just Liberation Day for Pordenone: it is the feast day of Saint Mark, the evangelist to whom the majestic Co-Cathedral overlooking the historic center is dedicated. Around this date, the capital of western Friuli organizes a four-day program that combines the religious, musical, and civic dimensions, in a balance that has become one of the identity traits of the Pordenone community.

Top-Level Sacred Music

The artistic heart of the festival is the Patron Saint's Concert, offered free of charge by the Storica Società Operaia in the Co-Cathedral. The solemn acoustics of the church host challenging symphonic programs performed by the Coro e Orchestra San Marco Musical Association, joined by renowned soloists. In the following days, there are solemn Vespers and evenings of sacred music accompanied by historical-spiritual reflections, which convey the depth of a centuries-old devotional tradition.

The Patron Saint's Day

April 25th is the main day. It opens with the bell concert entrusted to the Scampanotadors furlans, continues with the solemn Pontifical Mass presided over by the Bishop of Concordia-Pordenone in the presence of civil authorities, and culminates with the awarding of the Saint Mark Prizes in the Municipal Council Hall, an award for citizens who have distinguished themselves for particular merits. At noon, the park of the Diocesan Seminary hosts the Fortajada, a convivial popular event centered around the traditional frittata, with music and entertainment for children. The evocative Venetian custom of the bocolo di San Marco, the red rosebud distributed by the Red Cross, is also present.

Tradition and Historic Center

The festival concludes with the antique market along Corso Vittorio Emanuele and guided tours of the Duomo, the bell tower, the choir loft, and the precious Nacchini organ. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the most authentic side of Pordenone, a city of art and arcades, the cultural capital of a Friuli that knows how to make tradition a living heritage.
