About Saint Louis Festival

The Saint Louis Festival is the parish festival that enlivens the medieval village of Savignano Alto, in Savignano sul Panaro, in the province of Modena, every summer. Promoted by the Parish of Beata Vergine Assunta, it is a village event with good Emilian cuisine, music, entertainment for children, and community moments, experienced among the stone houses and cobbled alleys of Via Crespellani, at the foot of the church that dominates the hill. An authentic festival, where religious tradition meets the conviviality of the Terre di Castelli region.

A Village Festival in the Heart of the Hamlet

The Saint Louis Festival is one of the most cherished summer events in Savignano sul Panaro, a small municipality in the province of Modena nestled on the first hills separating the Emilian plain from the Apennines. The festival takes place in Savignano Alto, the charming medieval village perched on the hill, around the Parish of Beata Vergine Assunta and along the characteristic Via Arsenio Crespellani, the ancient road paved with river pebbles that climbs up to the castle and the church.

Parish Tradition and Village Identity

Organized by the parish community, the festival originates from the devotion to Saint Louis and has evolved over the years into a true village celebration, capable of attracting residents and visitors from the nearby towns of the Terre di Castelli area. It is an opportunity to gather within the walls of the fortified village, one of the most characteristic in the province of Modena and part of the Authentic Villages of Italy network, where the medieval atmosphere provides a backdrop for summer evenings.

What to Expect

The Saint Louis Festival combines the religious dimension with the convivial spirit typical of Emilian festivals. The heart of the festival has always been the food stand, featuring the flavors of Modenese cuisine, accompanied by evenings of music, entertainment, and areas dedicated to children and families.

  • Food stand with traditional Emilian specialties
  • Music and entertainment evenings
  • Dedicated area for children
  • Community moments in the medieval village of Savignano Alto

The Village of Savignano Alto

Visiting the festival is also an opportunity to discover Savignano Alto: the climb up Via Crespellani, the stone houses, the parish church built between 1746 and 1750 on the highest point of the castle, and the small oratory of San Rocco overlooking the square. A corner of Emilia-Romagna suspended in time, immersed among the vineyards and orchards of the Modenese hills.
