About Cortellazzo Fish Festival

In Cortellazzo, a fishing village at the mouth of the Piave and part of Jesolo, the Feast of Saint Joseph is both a patronal feast and a fish festival. Between late April and early May, food stalls offer traditional seafood dishes, while on May 1st, the village experiences its most evocative moment with the water procession of the Saint along the Cavetta canal and a religious procession. A festival that tells the story of the fishing soul of the Venetian lagoon.

The Fishermen's Village Celebrates

Cortellazzo, a district of Jesolo overlooking the mouth of the Piave river, is a village with an unmistakable maritime vocation. Here, between late April and early May, the Feast of Saint Joseph is celebrated, the patron saint's feast that intertwines with a true fish festival, a tribute to the tradition of a community always connected to the sea and the Venetian lagoon.

A Taste of Adriatic Fish

The heart of the festival are the food stalls set up in the churchyard, with about 200 seats and a menu dedicated to fresh fish dishes. Good food is accompanied by live music, themed evenings, a raffle, and the traditional fishing competition, a true symbol of the village's identity.

The Water Procession on May 1st

The highlight is May 1st: after Mass, the evocative water procession of the Saint takes place in the afternoon, with the statue transported on a 'caorlina' – the typical Venetian boat – along the Cavetta canal, thanks to the Jesolo Rowing Club. This is followed by a procession through the village streets with a blessing. A ritual that combines devotion, maritime identity, and lagoon folklore.

An Authentic Festival

Organized by the parish of Cortellazzo, the Parish Volunteers Group, and the Municipality of Jesolo, the Feast of Saint Joseph is an opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of the Venetian coast, where the fishermen's tradition is still alive and proudly told.
