Four days of faith, tradition, and celebration in the heart of the Castelli Romani
The Saint Joseph Patronal Festival is the most cherished event of the year for Pavona, a populous district of Albano Laziale, located in the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the Lazio region. Every spring, from late April to early May, the squares and streets of the district transform into a vibrant celebration space where religious devotion, entertainment, and community life intertwine. The event, organized by the Pavona Festival Committee with the patronage of the Municipality of Albano Laziale, is designed to blend faith, entertainment, and community spirit with a rich calendar of activities for all ages.
The religious heart of the festival is the solemn procession in honor of Saint Joseph, which takes place on the main day, May 1st. After Holy Mass celebrated at the Via Pescara parish, the statue of the Patron Saint is carried through the streets of Pavona accompanied by the "Cittร di Frascati" brass band, with the participation of the faithful and local residents. It is the most iconic moment of the festival, where the district reconnects with its roots and a sense of belonging passed down through generations.
Beyond its religious dimension, the Saint Joseph Festival offers a lively and varied program spread across Piazza Berlinguer, Piazza Nenni, and the streets of Pavona's center. Throughout the days, the schedule includes:
There is also the traditional funfair, with rides and traveling shows that bring the festival to life from the very first days of setup.
One of the most popular features in recent years is the wide range of culinary options: throughout the event, both for lunch and dinner, gourmet street food stalls are set up, offering regional and international specialties. It is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the festival with the flavors of street cuisine in an informal and convivial setting.
The Saint Joseph Patronal Festival is much more than a simple village fair: it is the moment when the entire community of Pavona comes together, between the sacred and the profane, to celebrate its identity. In a territory as rich in history and tradition as the Castelli Romani, this festival preserves the authentic value of Italian patronal feasts, where devotion to the Saint blends with the joy of being together and celebrating in the streets.
The 2026 Saint Joseph Patronal Festival brought Pavona to life for four days, from April 30 to May 3, combining moments of faith, music, sport, and gastronomy between Piazza Berlinguer, Piazza Nenni, and the streets of the district.
Throughout the festival, at lunch and dinner, gourmet street food stalls were set up with regional and international specialties.
Pavona is a district of Albano Laziale, on the outskirts of the Castelli Romani, about 25 km south of Rome. By train, it is accessible via the regional Roma-Albano/Nettuno line, Pavona stop. By car, it can be reached via the Via Nettunense or the Via del Mare; during the festival, temporary traffic and parking restrictions will be in effect on the affected streets (Via del Mare, Via Pescara, Via Siena).
Access to the event is free. For information: Municipality of Albano Laziale, Cultural and Sports Services Sector, tel. +39 06 93295461, e-mail [email protected].
