The patronal feast of Ciampino, blending faith, music, and community spirit
The Saint John the Baptist Festival is the most anticipated event of the summer in Ciampino, a town in the Castelli Romani area within the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio. Dedicated to the patron saint, whose feast day falls on June 24th, the festival is organized by the Saint John the Baptist Parish and has established itself over the years as a key gathering for the entire local community. It is more than just a religious celebration; it is a true community festival that transforms Largo Martin Luther King into a lively public square.
The program spans an entire weekend, from Friday to Sunday, alternating moments of spirituality with live performances and entertainment for all ages. From the afternoon, children take center stage with clowns, face painting, soap bubbles, games, inflatables, a magician, and roaming performers. As evening falls, food and artisan stalls open, offering delicious outdoor dining and street food options.
The heart of the festival is the stage at Largo Martin Luther King, which hosts a different show every night: pop orchestras playing chart-toppers and Sanremo hits, dance school performances, themed shows with choreography and light displays, and tributes to great Italian artists. The evenings are also punctuated by spectacular moments, such as the fireworks that light up the sky and bring the festivities to a grand close.
The Saint John the Baptist Festival is organized by the parish with the support of the Municipality of Ciampino and the collaboration of the Local Police, Civil Protection, and the Italian Red Cross, ensuring the safety and success of the event. Admission is free: the festival is intended as a gift to the city, an opportunity to rediscover a sense of community and to enjoy summer evenings in the Castelli Romani together across generations.
Located at the gates of Rome, just a few kilometers from the Grande Raccordo Anulare and served by the famous airport, Ciampino is a convenient stop for those wishing to explore the Castelli Romani region, a land of charming villages, fine wines, and rich traditions. The patronal festival is the ideal occasion to experience the most authentic and convivial side of the city.
