The patron saint's feast in Voghiera, a blend of faith, music, and local flavours
The Sant'Antonio Festival is the traditional event celebrating the patron saint of Voghiera, a small municipality in the Province of Ferrara, in Emilia-Romagna. Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is June 13th, is the town's protector. Around this date, the community gathers for a few days of celebration that combine the religious and popular dimensions, in a balance that characterizes the best Italian village festivals.
The spiritual aspect remains the guiding thread of the event. In the days leading up to the feast, a preparatory triduum is held with moments of prayer and reflection. June 13th is dedicated to the solemn celebration in honour of the Patron Saint, accompanied by a procession through the town's streets. This is the moment when Voghiera reconnects with its roots and its deep bond with the figure of Saint Anthony.
Alongside religious tradition, the festival offers a lively program for all ages. Evenings come alive with live concerts, DJ sets, and musical performances, while during the day there are tournaments, competitions, and activities designed for children, with inflatables and dedicated play areas. The hamlets of the municipality, from Montesanto to Voghenza, are involved with events such as the traditional fishing competition, a sign of a festival that embraces the entire municipal territory.
Gastronomy is one of the main stars of the festival. In Piazza Giovanni XXIII, stands offer risottos, traditional first courses, fresh pasta, grilled dishes, and local products prepared by local restaurateurs, producers, and associations. A place of honour is reserved for Voghiera Garlic DOP, the specialty that has made this corner of the Ferrarese plain famous: a garlic with a white, shiny bulb, large in size and particularly preservable, which features in many of the proposed recipes. Tasting the festival's dishes means connecting with the food and wine identity of Voghiera and its surrounding area.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Voghiera with the patronage of the Municipality, the Sant'Antonio Festival is, above all, a moment of gathering for the town's inhabitants and an opportunity for visitors from the surrounding areas to discover the authenticity of a Ferrarese village festival, far from mass tourism and deeply rooted in local traditions.
For 2026, the Pro Loco of Voghiera, with the patronage of the Municipality, offers four days of celebration from June 12th to 15th in Piazza Giovanni XXIII. Alongside the religious celebrations in honour of Saint Anthony, the program alternates live music, tournaments, activities for children, and a rich gastronomic offer with traditional Ferrarese dishes and specialties related to Voghiera Garlic DOP. The festival also involves the hamlets of the municipality with dedicated events.
From June 10th to 13th, the preparatory triduum for the patronal feast also takes place.
The festival is mainly held in Piazza Giovanni XXIII, in the centre of Voghiera (FE), with some events in the hamlets of the Municipality (such as the fishing competition in Montesanto).
Voghiera is located a few kilometres south-east of Ferrara. By car, it is easily reached from Ferrara by taking the provincial road towards Portomaggiore. The most convenient train station is Ferrara, from which you can continue by local transport or car.
Access to the festival and the square events is free. Food stands offer dishes for a fee, with local specialties and recipes based on Voghiera Garlic DOP. For updated times and details, it is advisable to consult the channels of the Pro Loco of Voghiera and the Municipality.
