The festival of Nuvolento's patron saint, featuring a market, and the famous casoncelli
For many years, the Municipality of Nuvolento, in the province of Brescia, has dedicated a solemn festival to the memory of Saint Andrew the Apostle and Martyr, commemorated by the Church on November 30th. The saint, to whom a small village church is dedicated, is honored with two days of tastings, music, and markets that attract residents and visitors from all over the Valle Sabbia and the Brescia plain.
The culinary heart of the festival is the Saint Andrew's casoncello, a fresh egg pasta rolled thin and filled with simple ingredients: breadcrumbs and grated cheese, parsley, and garlic. It's served with a rich butter sauce flavored with sage and plenty of Grana Padano DOP. This recipe is so distinctive that it has been recognized with a Communal Designation (DeCo), a symbol of the region's peasant cuisine.
Throughout the day, a market of artisans and local and handcrafted products winds through the streets of the town center. There are also themed exhibitions held in municipal spaces, displays of ancient prints of the saint in the library, roasted chestnuts, hot drinks, food stalls, and a bar area. The day concludes with an aperitif with live music in the town hall courtyard, under a heated marquee.
Alongside the convivial aspect, the religious dimension remains central: solemn vespers and mass in honor of the patron saint mark the festival's calendar, recalling the ancient bond between the town and Saint Andrew. It's an opportunity to rediscover the identity of a village in the Valle Sabbia that takes pride in its conviviality and traditions.
Nuvolento is preparing to renew the Saint Andrew's Festival around November 29th and 30th, 2026, with the tried-and-tested formula that alternates religious moments with cultural and gastronomic initiatives.
The detailed program is usually published in the weeks preceding the event by the Municipality and the parish. As tradition dictates, the market of artisans and local products along the town's streets, roasted chestnuts, food stalls with Saint Andrew's casoncelli, exhibitions in municipal spaces, and the evening aperitif with live music are expected.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Municipality of Nuvolento and the parish in the weeks leading up to the festival.
