The fried anchovy and potato cone in Sestolese Summer
The cuoppo is the paper cone in which, in the tradition of Southern Italy, fried fish is served to be enjoyed while walking. In Sesto Campano, a municipality in the province of Isernia on the border between Molise and Campania, a summer sagra celebrates the cuoppo of anchovies and potatoes, combining fried anchovies with potatoes in a delicious and popular formula.
The sagra is one of the events in the Sestolese Summer program, the calendar of events that the Municipality of Sesto Campano organizes every year from late June to September. Gastronomic events like this one, dedicated to local products and popular cuisine, are among the most popular with families and holidaymakers.
The evening combines tastings of the anchovy and potato cuoppo with music and entertainment, in a convivial atmosphere typical of the Molise villages in summer. It is an opportunity to discover the local street food and experience the atmosphere of the Sesto Campano summer season.
The 2026 edition of the Sagra del Cuoppo di Alici e Patate is scheduled for around July 20 in Sesto Campano, following the previous year's placement in the Sestolese Summer program. The exact date will be confirmed by the Municipality with the publication of the summer program. The evening will remain dedicated to the fried anchovy and potato cuoppo.
The precise date of the 2026 edition will be confirmed with the publication of the Sestolese Summer schedule.
Sesto Campano is located in the province of Isernia, on the border with Campania, reachable by car from the A1 motorway (San Vittore/Venafro exit).
Free admission; tastings payable on site.
