The Carmine Festival in Venafro
The Festa della Madonna del Carmelo is one of the most deeply rooted religious events in Venafro (province of Isernia). The celebrations revolve around July 16th, the day of the Madonna del Carmine, and take place at the Duomo (Cathedral) and the Church of Carmine of the parish of San Giovanni in Platea. The festival is preceded by a preparatory novena with rosary and evening mass.
Procession and Civil Evenings
The climax is the solemn procession on July 16th, with the statue of the Madonna carried through the streets of the center to the Church of Carmine, accompanied by liturgical celebrations. Alongside the religious part, the civil evening events fill the squares with concerts and entertainment during the festival days. In Venafro, the occasion is also linked to a traditional fair ("r' ì Cuarmn").
