The fishermen's dish
The Sagra del Bagnun is one of the historic festivals of the Tigullio Gulf, dedicated to bagnun di acciughe, the signature dish of the seaside village of Riva Trigoso, a hamlet of Sestri Levante (Metropolitan City of Genoa). It is a simple yet flavourful soup, prepared with fresh anchovies, tomatoes, and the galletta del marinaio (sailor's biscuit), the dry biscuit that once replaced bread on fishing boats.
Three days at Giardini di Borgo Ponente
The festival takes place at the Giardini di Borgo Ponente, a few metres from the sea, with free tastings of the typical dish, food stalls, live music, craft exhibitions, and the traditional fireworks to close the event. The organisation is managed by the Associazione Bagnun Onlus together with the Municipality of Sestri Levante.
A tradition that continues
With decades of history, the Sagra del Bagnun is much more than a gastronomic event: it is a celebration of the maritime memory of Riva Trigoso and a recipe passed down through generations. Free admission and its popular atmosphere make it one of the most beloved summer events in Eastern Liguria.
Sagra del Bagnun — edition 2026
The 66th edition of the Sagra del Bagnun will be held from July 17 to 19, 2026, at the Giardini di Borgo Ponente in Riva Trigoso. For three days, the seaside village celebrates its signature dish, the bagnun di acciughe, with tastings, music, and festivities.
Organised by the Associazione Bagnun Onlus with the Municipality of Sestri Levante, the festival traditionally offers food stalls, musical entertainment, craft exhibitions, and fireworks to conclude the event. The municipal administration has allocated funding to support the festival.
