About Sacred Heart Festival

Every year, to mark the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the parish on Via dei Fiordalisi transforms its courtyard into a lively village square. The Ladispoli Sacred Heart Festival blends liturgy with popular celebration: a procession accompanied by the La Ferrosa Marching Band, food stalls run by local volunteers, children's games, dance evenings, and a grand fireworks display that closes the event under the stars of the Roman coast.

A neighborhood festival that has become a city landmark

In the town of Ladispoli, on the northern coast of the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the Lazio region, the Sacred Heart Festival is much more than a parish event. For over thirty years, the church community on Via dei Fiordalisi, in the heart of the Fiori district, has hosted three days where the liturgical calendar intertwines with local festivities. The event is traditionally held to coincide with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which falls on the Friday following Corpus Christi: for this reason, the date shifts each year, usually between the second and last week of June.

The procession and the La Ferrosa Band

The most heartfelt moment remains the procession with the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which winds through the streets of the district accompanied by the historic La Ferrosa Marching Band. The parade travels along streets named after flowers—Via delle Viole, Via dei Campi Fioriti, Via delle Dalie, Via delle Orchidee—past residents' decorated balconies, before returning to the church. It is the image that best captures the soul of the festival: a religious rite experienced as a collective neighborhood moment, where generations meet on their doorsteps.

Shows, music, and dance evenings

Alongside the celebrations, the program expands into a full schedule of popular entertainment, set up in the square and the parish's multipurpose hall. Over the years, the stage has featured dance orchestras, Roman singer-songwriters, local bands, and themed shows, while the Youth Ministry animates evenings dedicated to younger attendees. There is never a shortage of moments designed for families:

  • Baby dance and educational workshops for children
  • Treasure hunt open to the whole family
  • Burraco tournaments and board games
  • Exhibitions of vintage cars and historic vehicles
  • Demonstrations by the State Police, including canine units
  • Sports performances by local associations

Food stalls and solidarity

Throughout the festival, food stalls run by parish volunteers remain open. The cuisine is the simple, generous fare of Lazio village festivals: steaming pasta dishes, fried snacks, porchetta, homemade desserts, and the traditional community dinner that gathers hundreds of people at outdoor tables. The proceeds are never an end in themselves: they are donated to charity and allocated to the community's charitable works, as are the proceeds from the raffle held a few days after the closing in the multipurpose hall.

The grand finale under the stars

Sunday evening always ends the same way: live music or a DJ set until late, followed by the grand fireworks display that illuminates the Ladispoli sky around 11:30 PM. It is the moment when the square fills up, with families looking up and children on their parents' shoulders: a ritual that has been repeated identically for decades and which, for many locals, symbolically marks the beginning of summer.

Ladispoli, between sea and archaeology

The festival is also an excellent opportunity to discover a city often passed through in a hurry. Ladispoli, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea with its characteristic black sand beaches of volcanic origin, houses the Odescalchi Castle of Palo and is located just a few kilometers from the Etruscan necropolis of Cerveteri, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In June, the climate is already fully summery but not yet sultry, and in the evening, the sea breeze makes staying outdoors pleasant until late at night.

An intangible heritage of the coast

In a city that grew rapidly after the war, largely made up of families who arrived from other parts of Italy, festivals like this have played a precise role: building identity and a sense of belonging. The Sacred Heart Festival, sponsored by the Municipality of Ladispoli, is today one of the most attended events on the city calendar and one of the most authentic ways to experience the real life of this stretch of the Lazio coast.

Sacred Heart Festival — edition 2026

The 34th edition of the Sacred Heart Festival took place in Ladispoli from June 12 to 14, 2026, on the grounds of the Via dei Fiordalisi parish. Three days marked by the procession with the La Ferrosa Marching Band, volunteer-run food stalls, children's workshops, and evening shows, concluding with the traditional Sunday night fireworks.

The 34th Sacred Heart Festival

The 2026 edition of the Sacred Heart Festival in Ladispoli coincided perfectly with the liturgical solemnity, celebrated this year on Friday, June 12. The Via dei Fiordalisi parish offered three days of events under the patronage of the Municipality of Ladispoli, alternating religious celebrations, popular entertainment, and family activities.

Friday was dedicated to the most solemn moment, with Holy Mass and the procession through the streets of the Fiori district; Saturday featured the burraco tournament, demonstrations by the State Police with canine units, and an exhibition of historic vehicles; Sunday, between the treasure hunt, workshops, and sports performances, concluded with a musical evening and fireworks. Throughout the event, food stalls managed by volunteers remained open, with proceeds donated to charity.
