About Sabina Libri

Every year in late May, the "Peppino Impastato" Municipal Library in Poggio Mirteto hosts Sabina Libri, a publishing fair entirely dedicated to the Sabina territory and the province of Rieti. Enjoy three days of book presentations, author talks, workshops, and local publisher stands, all with free admission. Recognized as a cultural best practice by the Lazio Region, the event showcases the Sabina region through its books: art, archaeology, medieval villages, cuisine, crafts, and nature trails.

A fair that tells the story of Sabina through its books

Sabina Libri is the publishing fair dedicated to the province of Rieti and the entire Sabina district. It takes place every year at the end of May in Poggio Mirteto, in the Lazio region, within the "Peppino Impastato" Municipal Library on Via Antonio Gramsci, the cultural heart of the Lower Sabina. Established in 2021 by the Amici del Museo di Poggio Mirteto ODV Association and the SICBAS library system, the event has grown year after year to become the go-to gathering for those who write, publish, and read about this territory.

The concept: promoting the territory through its publications

The fair's goal is as simple as it is ambitious: to raise awareness of the Sabina region starting from the books that describe it. On the shelves and at the stands, you will find volumes ranging from art sites to individual artists, archaeology to medieval villages, cuisine to local products, and sports routes to nature trails, as well as popular traditions and crafts. It is not just for publishing houses; the fair also welcomes associations, public and private bodies, schools, publishing and culture professionals, and local businesses that showcase their projects and activities.

Three days of meetings, dialogues, and workshops

The program spans three days, from Friday to Sunday, with continuous hours from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Each edition revolves around a theme that provides coherence to the meetings, explored through book presentations, round tables, participatory workshops, and field activities. Alongside author events, there is space for educational projects from local schools, particularly the Bassa Sabina Comprehensive Institute and the "Gregorio da Catino" Institute, making the fair a meeting point for different generations.

  • Publishing presentations with authors and publishers from Sabina and the Lazio region
  • Publishing Focus dedicated to book trades and small independent publishing
  • Participatory workshops and activities for children and families
  • The Fair Live, a space for video interviews and cultural insights created with the Follow Focus Movie association and the library's ImpastatO Creative Writing Collective

Recognition from the Lazio Region

Sabina Libri has been recognized as a cultural best practice by the Lazio Region and adheres to the national campaign Il Maggio dei Libri (The Month of Books) promoted by the Center for Books and Reading (Cepell). This recognition rewards the event's ability to combine the promotion of reading, the enhancement of local heritage, and active community involvement.

Poggio Mirteto and the Sabina region

Poggio Mirteto is one of the main centers of the Lower Sabina, just over an hour from Rome and overlooking the Tiber Valley. Its historic center, enclosed within ancient walls, offers cozy squares, the Cathedral, and the Civic Museum, while all around lie the olive groves that give Sabina extra virgin olive oil its fame. Visiting the fair is the perfect opportunity to discover a land made of abbeys, such as the imperial Abbey of Farfa, medieval villages, and a gastronomy whose symbolic products are olive oil, cheeses, and legumes.

A free event open to all

Admission to the fair and all meetings is free and open to the public. The intimate format, hosted in a public library rather than a large pavilion, gives the event a familiar atmosphere: you can walk in, browse, and chat with authors and publishers without barriers. This is likely the reason for its growing success with the local public and visitors arriving from Rome and the rest of the province of Rieti.

Sabina Libri โ€” edition 2026

The 6th edition of Sabina Libri took place from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the "Peppino Impastato" Municipal Library in Poggio Mirteto, with continuous hours from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and free admission. The chosen theme, "Guarding the Sabina territory: a dialogue between Nature and Culture," guided three days of publishing presentations, round tables, participatory workshops, and field activities dedicated to the environment and the heritage of the Sabina region.
