Civitella del Tronto's patronal feast blending devotion with a floral fair
Every year on May 16th, Civitella del Tronto celebrates its patron saint, Sant'Ubaldo, a protector of the community and a figure deeply rooted in the village's popular devotion. In the municipality of Civitella del Tronto, in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo, this centuries-old tradition has been enriched with a new look through "S. Ubaldo in Fiore", an event organized by the Pro Loco in collaboration with the local Circolo Cittadino and regional associations.
The format combines two complementary spirits: on one hand, the religious celebrations in honor of Sant'Ubaldo, featuring the rites and community moments that have always accompanied the patronal feast; on the other, a fair dedicated to local flora and agriculture, designed to showcase regional produce and the deep bond between Civitella and its landscape, overlooking the Val Vibrata and the Monti della Laga.
During the event, the historic center transforms into a path of colors and scents. The program includes:
The setting for "S. Ubaldo in Fiore" is among the most evocative in Abruzzo. Civitella del Tronto, at an altitude of about 589 meters, is listed among the "Borghi piรน belli d'Italia" (Most Beautiful Villages in Italy) and is famous for its imposing Bourbon Fortress, the last stronghold of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to surrender in March 1861. The maze of medieval alleys, including the extremely narrow "Ruetta", provides a natural backdrop for a festival that unites faith, tradition, and the rediscovery of the territory.
Taking place in mid-May, "S. Ubaldo in Fiore" marks the beginning of the beautiful season in Civitella del Tronto and represents an opportunity for visitors and families to discover the Teramo village in its most festive guise, amidst popular devotion, floral craftsmanship, and Abruzzese hospitality.
The 2026 edition inaugurated the "S. Ubaldo in Fiore" event, the first edition of the renewed appointment with the patronal feast of Civitella del Tronto. On the evenings of Friday, May 15th, and Saturday, May 16th, 2026, between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM, the historic center hosted floral displays, themed areas dedicated to flora and agriculture, practical demonstrations, live music, and a refreshment area with local flavors. The festival concluded with traditional fireworks, coinciding with the feast day of Sant'Ubaldo on May 16th.
