The solidarity-focused Carnival of Ronsecco featuring the Brüsatun and Brüsatuna masks
The Ronsecco Charity Carnival is one of the most cherished events in Ronsecco, a small town in the Bassa Vercellese area, nestled among the rice paddies of Piedmont. Far from the grand urban spectacles of Turin or Ivrea, this Carnival focuses entirely on its village roots: the streets fill with masks, the community halls host lunches and dances, and every initiative supports a charitable cause for the local community. In 2026, the event reached its 58th edition, a testament to a tradition that has spanned generations.
The symbolic heart of the festival lies in the town's historic masks, Brüsatun and Brüsatuna, portrayed each year by local youths. They preside over the Carnival's highlights: from the official presentation to the charity collections through the streets, from the children's dance to the symbolic handing over of the town keys—a ritual where the Mayor entrusts Ronsecco to the Carnival for the duration of the festivities.
As with all Vercelli carnival traditions, food takes center stage. The calendar revolves around traditional bean festivals (fagiolate), the famous Pork Lunch featuring rustic peasant dishes (salame sotto grasso, panissa, ris brudà, cotechino, and sanguinaccio), and convivial gatherings in the multi-purpose hall. Numerous charitable initiatives take place: the masks visit the local nursing home, the Carabinieri station, and schools in neighboring towns, embodying the true spirit of a Carnival that puts solidarity at its core.
The Ronsecco Carnival is part of Borghi in Maschera, a large, widespread Carnival network connecting dozens of Piedmontese towns, particularly those in the Vercelli province linked by waterways and rice cultivation. This project promotes the folk traditions of small villages, from parades to bean festivals, restoring dignity and visibility to authentic celebrations that tell the story of the local identity.
Events are spread across the weeks of Carnival, between late January and February, with weekends dedicated to charity collections, dances, bean festivals, and community lunches. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Piedmontese plains and experience Carnival in its most genuine and participatory form.

By car, it can be reached via the A4 motorway (Vercelli Est or Greggio exits) and the provincial roads of the rice-growing plains. The nearest train station is Vercelli, from where you can continue by car or local bus connections.
Events are held in the Ronsecco multi-purpose/community hall and along the town streets (collections and processions).
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Ronsecco in collaboration with the Municipality. Many events (lunches and bean festivals) require reservations: it is advisable to check with the local Pro Loco.
