The International Robotics Trophy of Rome for young innovation talents
RomeCup is Italy's premier event dedicated to educational robotics, artificial intelligence, and the talent of the next generation. Promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS, the event takes place every spring in Rome, across the municipal area and the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the Lazio region. The core of the event is the International Robotics Trophy of Rome, which brings hundreds of student teams to the Capital, ready to put their robots to the test.
RomeCup spans three days that unite two iconic city landmarks: the university campus, where competitions, workshops, and meetings are concentrated, and the Campidoglio, which hosts the finals and the award ceremony in the institutional hall of the Municipality of Rome. It is a journey that guides students from technical challenges to public recognition, set against a backdrop of great symbolic value.
The program weaves together competition, creativity, and training. Key activities include:
Each edition attracts over four thousand participants, mostly students of all levels, alongside teachers, researchers, and institutional representatives. RomeCup is more than just a competition: it is a large collective laboratory where robotics and artificial intelligence engage with the humanities, and where young people experience firsthand the link between school, research, and the world of work. The finals at the Campidoglio, open to the public, return the energy and creativity of these young innovation protagonists to the entire city.
The 19th RomeCup was held from April 28 to 30, 2026, with the days of April 28 and 29 at the Marco Polo Building of Sapienza University of Rome, and the finals and award ceremony at the Campidoglio, in the Capitoline Museums. The edition, titled "Intelligences and Talents in Dialogue," also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
The program brought together over 4,000 participants, including approximately 3,500 students: 100 teams in the International Trophy of Rome robotics competitions, 32 creative contests, 37 educational workshops, 17 university orientation talks, and 53 organizations in the demonstration area. Guests included journalist Riccardo Luna and robotics pioneer Paolo Dario. The event opened in the Aula Magna of the Marco Polo building with a morning dedicated to stories of technological innovation and artificial intelligence.
Edition theme: "Intelligences and Talents in Dialogue." Approximate activity hours: 09:00-13:00.
RomeCup is primarily held at Sapienza University of Rome (Marco Polo Building) and at the Campidoglio, the seat of the Municipality of Rome, for the finals and awards.
Sapienza is accessible via Metro Line B (Policlinico or Castro Pretorio stops) and numerous bus lines; the Campidoglio is located a short walk from Piazza Venezia, which is served by many city center bus lines. Public transport is recommended for reaching both venues.
School participation is by registration via the Fondazione Mondo Digitale; the finals at the Campidoglio are open to the public. For information: [email protected].
