About She Devil 14

SHE DEVIL 14 is the historic international video art exhibition exclusively featuring female artists, conceived by Stefania Miscetti in 2006 and hosted from April 29 to August 30, 2026, at the MACRO in Rome, in the Salario-Nomentano district. The fourteenth edition is dedicated to fear, explored through artist films, performances, and animations by some of the most prominent Italian and international artists, from Camille Henrot to Laure Prouvost, and from Regina José Galindo to Marianna Simnett. A journey into the contemporary female imagination in the heart of the Capital.

She Devil, women's video art in Rome

She Devil is one of the longest-running European exhibitions dedicated to video art from a female perspective. Conceived in 2006 by gallerist and curator Stefania Miscetti, it takes its name from a comic book heroine and the famous 1989 film by Susan Seidelman, carrying a rebellious and visionary spirit from its inception. Each edition brings together Italian and international artists, from emerging talents to established names, invited to explore a theme through the language of video. In 2026, the exhibition reaches its fourteenth edition and arrives for the first time at the MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, located at Via Nizza 138, in the Municipio II of the Salario-Nomentano district.

The 2026 theme: fear

The fourteenth edition is dedicated to one of the primary human emotions: fear. Through artist films, recorded performances, and animations, Italian and international authors reflect on how this feeling influences our lives, touching on sensitive topics such as violence, our relationship with the environment, transience, and the sense of belonging to society, while also seeking to look beyond to identify possible ways out. It is therefore not just a catalog of anxieties, but a journey that attempts to transform fear into awareness.

The artists

The program brings together a constellation of some of the most significant perspectives on the international scene. Featured artists include Monira Al Qadiri, Cecelia Condit, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Raffaella Crispino, Helen Anna Flanagan & Josefin Arnell, Regina José Galindo, Camille Henrot, Laure Prouvost, P.Staff, Janis Rafa, Tabita Rezaire, Marianna Simnett, and Yuyan Wang, along with a Lithuanian collective. The godmother of this edition is Nathalie Djurberg, whose animated imagery, often disturbing and fairy-tale-like, dialogues perfectly with the chosen theme.

A new home: the audiovisual spaces of the MACRO

The exhibition is hosted in the museum's new video room, within the area dedicated to moving images and sound, carved out of the spaces of the former Birreria Peroni. The MACRO, managed by the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, is one of the main contemporary art hubs in Rome and the Lazio region: the arrival of She Devil in its programming confirms the museum's commitment to prioritizing audiovisual research and female artistic voices.

Why it's worth visiting

  • An exhibition with over twenty years of history, a benchmark for female video art in Europe.
  • Leading names from the international scene in a single exhibition path.
  • A long duration, from late April to late August, allowing for easy planning even during the Roman summer.
  • An affordable entry ticket, in one of the most important contemporary art museums in the Capital.

For contemporary art enthusiasts, students of visual languages, and curious visitors, She Devil 14 in Rome is an unmissable event in the cultural season of the City of Rome and the Lazio Region.
