Rome Art Week is the event that lights up the contemporary art scene in the Capital every autumn. Born in 2016, the festival has become the go-to appointment for enthusiasts, collectors, scholars, and curious visitors who want to explore the creative vitality of Rome. For one week, the city transforms into a large, widespread museum: private galleries, artist studios, academies, foundations, and independent spaces open their doors to the public, creating a capillary map that crosses the territory of the Municipality of Rome, in the heart of Lazio.

Open studios, exhibitions, and guided tours

The heart of Rome Art Week is the open studios: artists' ateliers open their doors, allowing you to meet creatives in their workspace, among works in progress, canvases, sculptures, and installations. Alongside the studios, the week offers dozens of exhibitions in galleries and city institutions, performances, talks, and meetings with curators. The free guided tours, organized by area and theme, accompany the public to discover not only the realities of the center but also the most vibrant neighborhoods.

A widespread map across the Capital's neighborhoods

The strength of the festival is its widespread nature: from the Historic Center to Trastevere, from the historic Via Margutta to the Jewish Ghetto, up to the iconic neighborhoods of experimentation like San Lorenzo, Garbatella, and the creative suburbs. Each edition involves over two hundred structures and hundreds of artists, offering a complete and updated snapshot of what is happening in Roman art spaces. The public can build their own itinerary by consulting the online map and calendar, moving freely between the city's districts.

A free and participatory event

Rome Art Week is completely free, both for the artists and spaces that participate and for visitors: the regulations do not allow for events with paid entry tickets. This choice makes the festival a truly open and inclusive cultural project, capable of bringing even those who do not usually frequent galleries and museums closer to contemporary art.

History and organization

The festival is promoted by KOU – Non-profit Association for the promotion of Visual Arts, with communication and logistics managed by Menexa. Since the first edition in 2016, the goal has remained the same: to enhance the Roman art scene and contribute to the cultural revival of the city in a European and international context. With over ten editions behind it, Rome Art Week confirms itself as one of the most participated and appreciated initiatives dedicated to contemporary art in Italy.
